Actuarial Summer Programs

By participating in a high school summer actuarial program, you can learn about the actuarial science career and connect with professors and industry professionals that can offer invaluable advice about majors and careers.

In addition to gaining an understanding of what actuaries do in the insurance and financial services industries, you can experience campus life while you develop important contacts with actuaries and organizations that provide scholarships, internships, summer jobs, and mentors to help guide your career.

International Association of Black Actuaries (IABA) – Location coincides with Annual Meeting

IABA Actuarial Boot Camp

The IABA Actuarial Boot Camp is held during the week leading up to IABA Annual Meeting, typically the last week of July or the first week of August.

The IABA Actuarial Boot Camp is geared towards increasing industry awareness of prospective actuarial students and positioning them for a successful actuarial internship or entry-level opportunity. The Boot Camp provides students with exposure to real world actuarial work, and the soft skills needed to successfully interview for and land an internship or entry-level position.

West Chester University – West Chester, Pennsylvania

ASAP! The Actuarial Science Academy Program of West Chester University

ASAP! will host rising high school seniors who have been recognized by their high school mathematics or science teachers as having a strong aptitude for mathematics for a three-day immersion into the life of an actuary and college student during the summer followed by a one-day shadow experience at the university in the fall. It is aimed to educate participating scholars about the Actuarial Science career and show that being good at math is cool and rewarding. Along the way, the scholars will be introduced to many of the services WCU and its Mathematics Department provides; sessions with Admissions and Financial Aid will also be provided.

Howard University – Washington D.C.

Summer Actuarial Program (SAP)

The Summer Actuarial Program is an educational enrichment experience in mathematics, statistics, computers, business, and actuarial careers for exceptional mathematics high school juniors. The program is funded by the Joint CAS/SOA Committee on Minority Recruiting, insurance companies, actuarial consulting firms, and Howard's Center for Insurance Education. It is devoted to helping strong mathematics students improve their skills and provides information about business and actuarial careers.

Illinois State University – Normal, Illinois

Midwest High School Scholars Analytics Academy for Underrepresented Groups

The one-week program is designed especially for above-average African-American, Hispanic, and Native American high school students who excel in mathematics, enjoy learning, and like to solve complicated problems. If you have a passion for mathematics and an appetite for knowledge, you may have what it takes to be an actuary. This program will help you decide if an actuarial career is a way to use your mathematical ability.

Lebanon Valley College – Annville, Pennsylvania

Summer Scholars: Actuarial Science

The actuarial science summer camp is a week-long intensive program for rising high school seniors designed to help them decide if they’re interested in actuarial work. Lebanon Valley College has had a successful actuarial science program for more than 40 years, and has run this summer camp for more than two decades.

Morgan State University – Baltimore, Maryland

Summer Academy of Mathematics and Science Program

The Summer Academy of Mathematics and Science (SAMS) sponsored by the Morgan State University Actuarial Science Program is a multi-week academic summer program designed primarily for students preparing to enter the 10th, 11th, or 12th grades as well as for high school graduates who have exceptional interest in attending university to pursue math- and science-based careers and the drive to increase their Mathematics, English and Computer Science skills. Approximately 30-35 students are selected to receive innovative classroom instruction as well as hands-on experience in Mathematics, English (critical reading and writing skills) and Computer Science. During the program, students also investigate various careers in the sciences.

DePaul University – Chicago, Illinois

Actuarial Summer Academy

DePaul’s Actuarial Summer Academy is designed to get high school students engaged in the exciting field of actuarial science through experiential learning, case challenges and visits by industry professionals. Students will experience the summer camp in teams of six, each sponsored by a different company. Selected students are invited to participate in the five-day summer academy that introduces them not only to life at DePaul University, but also to the path of an actuarial science major. There will be opportunities to learn about the university in addition to the activities, seminars, speakers and short field trips related to the world of actuarial science.
