Content forPracticum in Human Services is designed to meet the occupational preparation needs and interests of students and should be based upon the knowledge and skills selected from two or more courses in a coherent sequence in the human services cluster as well as the essential knowledge and skills described in subsection (c) of this section for communication, critical thinking, problem solving, information technology, ethical and legal responsibilities, leadership, teamwork, and entrepreneurship. (2) Instruction may be delivered through school-based laboratory training or through work-based delivery arrangements such as cooperative education, mentoring, and job shadowing. Lesson: Why Dress for Success?Main Idea: In the human services industry we are dealing with the public daily and it is imperative that our attire present a professional tone in the business world.Lesson Objective: The student will differentiate between appropriate and non – appropriate attire in the professional world. Instructions: View the enclosed video titled; Who Would You Hire? Then you may choose 1 of the following activitiesActivities: A. The FBLA – Future Business Leaders of America is an organization of students who are seeking to prepare themselves for their future careers. After reading the dress code, choose one of the “inappropriate attire” bullets and write at least 150 – 200 words explaining why the item(s) listed would hinder your career in a professional setting. Remember you are not writing an opinion, you are to use critical thinking based on a professional working environment in the human service field, specifically counseling and mental health. B. You have 3 dress codes in your learning packet. Each will have similarities and differences. Choose 2 similarities and 2 differences from the dress codes; write the sources, i.e. FBLA Dress Code, and Dealing with Dress Codes. Then write out the similarity, i.e. Both of these dress code indicate that you should not wear flip flops with dress suits. Next give 2 – 3 sentences why you believe this is common in more than one dress code, i.e. Flip flops are not appropriate with business suits because some people have really strange looking toes and they should keep that to themselves. Learning Objectives: This lesson will allow you to evaluate both personal and professional attire. Post-Test: Now that you have had an opportunity to review dress code examples it is time to demonstrate what you have learned. Lesson: But I Have Nothing to Wear…Main Idea: In preparing for the human services industry the student must be able to represent knowledge by measuring the difference between personal and professional attire. Lesson Objective: The student will demonstrate knowledge by judging the appropriate clothing selection for the human service industry. Instructions: Now that you have studied dress code it is time for you to choose an activity that allows you to showcase your knowledge. This is a test grade so you will want to take the time to present your best work. Choose 1 of the following activities to complete. Activities: You will illustrate the difference between proper business attire and personal attire. Make sure that you label them appropriately. This offers an opportunity for creativity. You will find an attached rubric for the project. Finished size must be at least 10 X 14 inches, or may be created digitally as a power point.A. you will find photographs or pictures from magazines, you will label in such a way that it is clear which are personal choices and which are professional choices. B. you may draw pictures to represent the difference between personal and professional attire with labels for each drawing or category. C. you may go shopping to find clothes for yourself that represent the difference between personal and professional attire, take photographs, (or have a friend do so), if you choose this activity you will want to place an emphasis on proper fitting garments.
