Glenside UCC is looking for a full-time intentional interim minister to serve our congregation for 12-24 months. Our current pastor is retiring in September 2020 after serving our congregation for 20 years.

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing and leading in-person and virtual Sunday worship:

• Crafting the liturgy, scripture study, sermon preparation including bulletin preparation, music choice, finding and guiding lay liturgists, preaching, and prayers, in cooperation with the Associate Pastor, Director of Christian Formation and Music Director.

• Leadership and leadership development:

• Supervision of staff (Associate Pastor, Director of Christian Formation, Church Administrator, Music Director and Pre-school Director).

1 Assisting the Director of Christian Formation with faith formation and vitality through prayer, Bible study, service, identifying helpful resources and opportunities and helping lay persons utilize them.

• Working with people in the church to create ministry and programs, and assisting the congregation in providing new directions in ministry.

• Participating in Church Council and committee meetings.

2 Strategic planning of current and new directions in ministry.

• Faithful financial development.

• Studying and praying to keep learning and improving skills and understanding so as to lead, teach and preach better.

• Inspiring, energizing and deepening spiritual connections and faith understanding through words and actions.

• Congregational and community engagement:

• Leading the way for the church to be an ambassador of God’s love.

• Providing Pastoral care, counseling and referrals to those in need, in collaboration with Called to Care volunteers or other lay people.

• Being available to the congregation and community for funerals, weddings, special service programs and as a representative of the church in community organizations.

• Participating in wider church meetings and activities such as conference and association meetings.

• Complete and/or delegate administrative responsibilities such as e-mail, web-site, regular mail, church supply choices/purchasing, filing or resources, and record-keeping, in collaboration with the Church Administrator.

• Guiding the congregation through the Pastoral transition:

• Serving as temporary pastor and resource-person for the dynamics of transition.

• Working with a transition team in the congregation to facilitate discernment of vision.

• Providing resources during the process of writing the Local Church Profile, focusing on three questions: Who are we now? Who is our neighbor? Who is God calling us to become?

• Leading exploration of the 5 key areas to identify and equip the calling of the congregation: heritage, mission, leadership, connections, and future.

• Obtaining ongoing education and professional accountability in specialized transitional ministry.

The typical term for the interim minister is 12 - 24 months and the minister is not eligible for the settled position (as re-stated in call/covenant agreement).

The interim minister’s compensation will follow the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference Compensation Guidelines (2021) but is flexible to modifications based on candidate-specific needs and preferences.
