Young Adult Missionary Society Mission Service Projects/Ministries Y.A.M.S. Purpose:Ideas for Y.A.M.S. Projects/Ministries:1. Unite women ages 22-40, of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church for mission service in the church and community. Among the prime objectives will be social concerns such as child abuse, teenage pregnancies, drug dependency, world hunger, etc.Highlight current social concerns: Human Trafficking; Black Lives Matter; Domestic Violence, Women’s Equality Matters; Poverty; Homelessness; World Hunger; HIV/AIDS, Balm-in-Gilead Initiatives (Hepatitis C, Cervical Cancer), and more.Hold AIDS Candlelight Prayer Vigil Services; Sponsor community walks for a specific social concern; Partner with local community agencies to provide support as needed (e.g., Battered Women’s Shelters, Rape Crisis Centers, Homeless Shelters, etc.); 2. Provide an opportunity for the personal and individual Christian growth of members.Encourage young adult missionaries to complete a Spiritual Gifts Inventory; Provide workshops on issues such as dealing with stress at home/work; financial management; mental health matters (depression); being more productive and successful at home/work; statistical information pertaining to a variety of health and social matters; Facilitate discussion of the personal concerns of young adult missionaries through book studies, informal table talks, and/or panel discussions; Make personal contact with young adult missionaries through phone calls, social media, and/or small-group fellowship activities (e.g., cruises, meetings/dinner away from church, etc.); Create and provide printed resources of community agencies/professionals and support groups (Safe Havens, Counselors, etc.); 3. Provide an opportunity for Christian witness through the use of their time, talent and treasure to support the mission.Give young adult missionaries the opportunity to share their testimonies with other people within and outside the local church by intentionally inviting them to participate on programs or donate supplies; Utilize Social Media, Conference Call Meetings, and/or Webinars as a way for young adult missionaries to share their Christian witness with others; Encourage Local Y.A.M. S. to work together in TEAMs (Together Everyone Achieves More); Allow young adult missionaries to be creative in the development and implementation of their own Christian witness service projects; Provide opportunities for young adult missionaries to write prayers and/or devotionals for use at the local and district levels; Offer financial support to local and global agencies to assist in the support of persons in need of housing, food, and other areas of need.4. Provide experiences that will enable Young Adult Missionaries to perpetuate the existence and continued growth of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society, the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, and the Kingdom of God.Mentoring – YAMS to YAMS; YAMS to Youth, and Parent Body to YAMS; Invite YAMS to participate on Parent Body Programs; Recognize Local Coordinator’s of Y.A.M.S. and local young adult missionaries for their service; Have Y.A.M.S. meetings and mission service projects at the same time as the Buds or Youth to encourage the participation of young adult missionaries with children; Promotional Services from Youth to Y.A.M..S and Y.A.M.S. to Parent Body. *Some of these ideas were discussed and proposed by the Y.A.M.S.
