|This planning is based around the story of Dear Zoo. It is aimed for the youngest to oldest of our Nursery children. |

|If you feel your child is ready to move on further then please feel free to look at the Reception planning. |

|The early year’s philosophy is all about learning through play and having fun. Therefore, please do not force your children to complete the whole of the suggested ideas and activity sheets. Just talking, reading and playing |

|games with your child is great. |

|In nursery, the normal practice would be to learn through their play increasing their vocabulary, counting skills, turn taking and mark making. |

|We know how difficult it can be parenting and teaching your child at home, so please feel free to contact us by email if you have any concerns. |

|The staff have made a few videos that your child will hopefully enjoy watching. |

|Dev |Activity: Turn taking games e.g Matching pairs. Kim’s game (tray of objects 5-6 adult remove one whilst child closes eyes, child then guesses the missing object) also see Video clip|

|Communication |Enjoy listening to longer stories and can remember much of what happens. |

|& |Sing a large repertoire of songs. |

|Language |Activity: Sing along to rhymes songs and stories using puppets and books. (Dear Zoo – Nursery video clip) |

| |Play games such as Simon says and musical statues following a signal. |

| |Identify and understand the concept of big/little – ask the children to cut and stick the animals according to their size. (see activity sheet attached) |

|PHYSICAL |Use one-handed tools and equipment, for example, making snips in paper with scissors. |

|Dev |Use a comfortable grip with good control when holding pens and pencils. |

| |Activities: |

| |Cutting old Christmas cards or animal activity sheet |

| |Pencil control activities-left to right, top-bottom observe pencil grip. (Use cutting sheet as a tracing sheet) |

| |Mark making in shaving foam/flour/rice or paint with utensils such as forks, potato masher and combs. |

| |Musical statues game, dancing to different types of music slow/fast etc. |

| |Tracing and copying names (Adult to write child’s name in a yellow pen and child to overwrite remember a capital letter at the start of your name). |

|Mathematics |Number recognition – Activity sheet (see attached) |

| |Write numerals on pieces of paper and lay around the floor ask children to go and stand on a given number. |

| |Order a set of numerals 1-5 and 1-10 |

| |Missing number game - Numerals 1-10 hide a numeral and children to identify the missing numeral. |

|UTW |Talk about the animals that are seen at the zoo and animals found on a farm. |

| |(Play with and categorise toy animals ) |

|Literacy |Listen to the story Dear Zoo (video clip) or YouTube story |

|Dev |Use some of their print and letter knowledge in their early writing. |

| |Activity: |

| |Draw some animals from the story Dear Zoo and label |

| |Write own name in lots of different colours. (animal border paper attached) |

|Expressive Arts |Enjoy and take part in action songs, such as ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’ etc. |

|And |Explore and engage in music making and dance, performing solo or in groups. |

| |Join in with the rhymes(Video clip) |

| |Record yourself singing your favourite songs and send it to your teachers. |
