PAUSES HAVE BEEN LEFT IN THE RECORDING TO ANTICIPATE AUDIENCE LAUGHTER

YOU CAN MODIFY THE (YOU) LINES TO FIT YOUR PERSONALITY. REWRITE AND BE CREATIVE!

SOUND ADVICE: You can perform this routine by playing the mp3 on a quality "boom box" portable stereo mp3 player in small areas, or over a professional sound system in large areas such as an auditorium or outside. Do not play on a small inexpensive player because the sound will distort when you try to play it loudly.

The mp3 should be played with plenty of volume. Kids will be laughing hard and will miss the routine if it is too quiet, and adults may keep laughter to a minimum for fear of missing parts of the program. The volume of the player should be set about the same as if you were speaking over a microphone to be heard by the group, or louder. It is best to have the mp3 played over a public address system and have the soundman preset the volume level to be compatible with your microphone level.

You may want to actively pause the mp3 during your performance in case you get a large audience laugh (we hope you do) after one of the jokes.

Begin your presentation with the puppet in a case or off-stage out of view.

OPENING MUSIC (as you get the puppet out of the case. Puppet then begins singing as you walk to the front)

P: Jingle bells, Jingle Bells,

Jingle all the way…

Y Hello, (name of puppet), I… (react to the interruption)

P …Oh what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh – Hey!

Y I… (start getting annoyed)

P Jingle bells, Jingle Bells,

Jingle all the way…

Y Can we begin!? (annoyed)

P …Oh what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh!

Y Well, hello (name of puppet)...I…

P (looking forward) Dashing thru the snow…

(turns to you)…hello…

(back to front) In a one horse open sleigh

(turns to you)…oh,Hey….(music stops)

Y Hey. (not real happy)

P I just love Christmas!

Y Yes, I can see that…

P Deck the halls with boughs of holly,

Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la…

Y All right…

P ‘Tis the season to be jolly,

Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la…

Y Do you mind…

P Don… hmmm…hmmmmmmmmm

fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la…la, la, la, la, la, la laaalll aaalllll (realizes you are staring at him)…La…La…(turns to you)

Y (smiling) (Name of puppet), that’s WAY too many “fa la la’s”.

P Sorry, I got carried away. I just love Christmas!

Y: Oh yes…well so do I…what do you….

P JOY to the world, the Lord has come

Let earth receive her King…

Y Can I ask you …

P Let EVERY heart

Prepare him room

Y: Excuse me.

P (Stops singing) I just love Christmas.

Y That’s good.

P No, that’s bad. I can’t get these Christmas songs out of my head and I sing them all the time.

Y Oh, that’s bad.

P No, that’s good because they remind me about Christmas and Jesus’ birth.

Y Oh, that’s good. What do you like most about Christmas?

P: I like EVERYTHING about Christmas! Christmas is wonderful.

Y: Christmas has always been wonderful!

P: Not always. Not the first Christmas!

Y: Do you mean, when Jesus was born?

P: Yes. That didn’t start out wonderful.

Y: Why would you say that?

P ‘Cause it wasn’t.

Y Excuse me…why wasn’t the first Christmas wonderful?

P: Well, an angel came to Mary.

Angels we have heard on high,

Sweetly singing o’er the plain.

Y: Yes, that’s good.

P: No, that’s bad! Mary was afraid of the angel!

Y: Oh, that’s bad.

P: No, that’s good! You should respect angels…especially the big ones! The angel said, “DON’T BE AFRAID! You are going to have a baby!”

Y: Oh, that’s good!

P: No, that’s bad. Mary wasn’t married!

Y: Oh, that’s bad.

P: No, that’s good…because an angel told her future husband, Joseph, in a dream that this baby is the Son of God, and that he should marry…Mary.

Y: Oh, that’s good!

P: No, that’s bad because they had to go to Bethlehem right away and all that Mary had to ride on was a donkey, and she was carrying a baby! Can you imagine how uncomfortable that would be?

Y: Oh, that’s bad!

P: Yeah. Especially for the donkey! …..But finally they finally made it to Bethlehem.

Oh little town of Bethlehem

How still we see thee lie…

Y: Oh, that’s good!

P: No, that’s bad. There was no place left for them to stay!

Away in a Manger, no crib for a bed,

The little Lord Jesus lay down his sweet head….

Anyway, they had to sleep in a stable with the animals!

Y: Oh, that’s b-a-a-a-a-a-d. (like a sheep)

P: Very funny. Actually, it was good! That night baby Jesus was born.

Y: Oh, that’s good.

P: No, that’s…. FANTASTIC!! Ha, ha, ha, ha…Everybody join in with me now!

Joy to the world the Lord has come,

Let earth receive her King!

Let every heart prepare him room,

And heaven and nature sing,

And heaven and nature sing,

And heaven and nature sing.

Y: That was great (name of puppet). Well, everybody, this brings us to the end of our show, and we’d like to wish you…

We wish you a merry Christmas,

We wish you a merry Christmas,

We wish you a merry Christmas

And a happy new year. Ha, ha, ha, ha…

Y: Merry Christmas everybody!
