PRINCIPAL: Dr. Carl Perkins
FROM THE PTSA:
It is hard to believe that this is our last Eagle's Eye newsletter for this year! I hope you have found this to be an informative and interesting publication. The PTSA and our hardworking editor, Josie Thompson, have tried to let you know about many events going on at CHS.Thanks to Josie for a great job done, and for agreeing to continue next year. Look for the first issue to arrive just before school starts.
With your help, the PTSA has been able to accomplish many of our objectives this year. Some of the highlights of the year were: a successful Homecoming with the traditional pancake breakfast and Homecoming dance, the student directory, the Jingle Bell banquet, the After Prom party, class grants given to each class, 4 scholarships to be given to graduating seniors, SAT classes, and monthly treats provided to the staff as well as the welcoming and closing lunches for the staff. We also provided volunteers for many activities at school. We extend sincere thanks to all of you who helped us achieve so much.
By the time you receive this, the Prom and After Prom Party may be over. The After Prom Party is one of the biggest PTSA efforts of the year, both in terms of the funds budgeted for the event as well as in terms of the volunteers who work all year long, and in some cases all night long, to help keep our CHS students safe on Prom night. Special thanks to Sherrye McKay for her hard work in chairing the event this year. The PTSA is very grateful to those businesses and individuals who donated funds or prizes for the event as well as the volunteers. We couldn't do it without you and thank you for all your efforts!
We have a number of PTSA volunteers who are leaving us, either because of graduating seniors or to devote their time and efforts to other endeavors. We want to acknowledge and thank the following devoted parents for all they have done for CHS over the years: Sandy Cosentino, Cindy Feinstein, Adrienne Goldstein,Terri Grassl, Sue Gruelich, Myla and Carl Korn, Mindy Lovalvo, Dale Mathe, Andi McDowell, Sherrye McKay, Teresa Norman, Diane Standeven, and Kathy Wilson. It is truly amazing to think of all you have accomplished over the years. We will miss you!
One of the greatest privileges of being the PTSA President this year has been getting to know some of our SGA officers, as well as staff members of CHS who help our students achieve

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK:
Dear Families,
Although the last few weeks have been chilly, the arrival of Spring has encouraged many to rejoice the coming warm
weather. The snows did not move the last day of school which now
stands at Friday, June 19. Spring sports and activities are in full
swing. Our teams are quite competitive, so far. Our Mock Trial,
Math, and Debate Teams have all recorded victories and stellar
performances in worthy competitions. Your support of each of
these extra-curricular activities is part of the key to their success,
and we thank you.
The 2009-2010 school year promises to be another year
marked with success. The stability of our enrollment enables us to
remain unchanged with regard to redistricting. We are organized
and have the majority of our students registered for classes.
I was fortunate enough to join many of my colleagues at
the recent Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals
conference. Although these conferences focus on instructional
leadership, opportunities existed for professional growth in all areas
of education. Two of the sessions I attended dealt with the
application of key data points in education to school improvement
planning. At Centennial, data recording and analysis is crucial to
our planning and ultimately, the achievement of our students. Our
teachers recently participated in the TELL MARYLAND survey
which is intended to provide data and feedback on the overall
learning environment for students and teachers. It is hoped that
results of this survey will assist us in providing the best possible
teaching and learning for our students.
As we move into the month of May and the end of the
year looms on the horizon, please continue to remind students
of their responsibility to attend school regularly and do their best,
academically. Students who participate in athletics earn academic
eligibility for fall sports based on academic performance in the
fourth quarter (2.0, no Es). The date for graduation is May 26th,
8 pm at Merriweather Post Pavilion. Take Care!

IMPORTANT STUDENT SERVICES DATES
SENIORS ALERT ? SENIORS ALERT ? SENIORS ALERT
It is important for seniors to complete all senior activities and prepare for graduation. Some of those activities include: 1. Turn in the "Senior Information Form" to Mrs. Drnec, Student Services
Secretary. This information provides our office with details regarding scholarships, awards, honors, and the college or higher education program they will attend. Much of this information is outlined in the senior awards booklet, provided at graduation, and disseminated to the Board of Education and local newspapers. 2. Turn in copies of college/post-high school training acceptance letters to Mrs. Drnec. 3. Bring in a wallet-sized senior photo for our "Senior Photo Screen." 4. Pick up, decorate and return the "Soaring Eagle" template for the senior "Eagles Soar" bulletin board displayed outside the Student Services office. Seniors are to decorate the template in the school colors/logos of the college or higher education training program that the senior plans to attend after graduation. The "Soaring Eagles" will be added to the bulletin board outside of Student Services for all to enjoy. Be sure to visit the "Eagles Soar" board to see the seniors already displayed. 5. Remember that community service hours and junior resume/interview are graduation requirements! Check with your counselor if you have not completed these requirements. 6. Final Transcripts -- Please supply a stamped envelope, with your return name and address in the upper left hand corner, addressed to the college you will be attending in the fall, so that we can mail out your Final Transcript.
