SOUTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL’S TECHNOLOGY STUDENT ASSOCIATION 2020-2021 Information PacketABOUT US Who We Are Southeast High School’s Technology Student Association (SEHS TSA) is a student led organization dedicated to competing at the district, state and national level in 35 different STEM-related events. Through these competitions, our members learn everything from computer skills and professional computer programs to manufacturing and presentation skills. With the goal to better our members for the ever-changing technological work force, our competitions use events like career preparation and extemporaneous speech that develop a professional skill set. As part of the nation’s largest state delegation, SEHS TSA is consistently ranked among the top schools in the country. Mission Statement It is the mission of Southeast TSA to work not only as individuals, but as a team in each endeavor that our club faces. Our objective is to better our members through activities and competition as we learn to live a technical world. We believe that education derives not only from the classroom, but also from everyday experiences as we strive to further our individual skillsets, to the best of our ability, for the benefit of our team. We aim to be steadfast in our pursuit of success as we work to become state and national champions and serve as role models in our community. Message from the Officers Welcome! We are glad to hear you have an interest in the Technology Student Association. This year more than ever, we are dedicated to harnessing 100% of the talent that we have in our club. Together we are gaining skills that help better prepare us for life and the workforce, while creating opportunities for ourselves that didn’t exist before. Such requirements and responsibilities must be met in order to quality for attending any competition. Below are additional requirements for attending each competition. If a member does not meet them in their entirety, they may be denied invitation to compete with our team. Please note that the officers’ and advisor’s decisions on membership and on which members attend a conference is final. At all times, members must abide by the Manatee County School Board Dress Code.TSA Official AttireShirt or Blouse: Official TSA shirt (royal blue) Pants or skirt: gray Socks: black or dark blue (males only) Shoes: black dress shoes (unacceptable: athletic shoes, combat or work boots) Sandals: females only may wear black open toe shoes or sandals For chapter team members only: Navy blue blazer with official TSA patch, with tie (males only). The official TSA attire can be purchased at . We recommend purchasing the shirt, and getting other items at local stores. Members must have this attire by February 1st. Business Casual Shirt: Collared polo style shirt Pants: Khaki trousers Shoes: black dress shoes (unacceptable: athletic shoes, combat or work boots) Sandals: females only may wear black open toe shoes or sandals Casual Attire Shirt: Southeast TSA shirt Pants: Khaki shorts, Khaki pants, or jeans. The Southeast TSA shirts will be supplied to TSA members by the chapter. CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS Informational Packet Paperwork Returned: Sept 11, 2020. TSA Meetings: Generally the meeting will be held every other Wednesday after school (Dependent on the month) in Mrs. Clark's room in 812 . Meetings start promptly at2:30 and end around 3:00. Afterwards students are welcome to work on projects in Mr. Platt’s room until 4p.m. For Fall 2020 ONLY. Chapter meetings will take place virtually unless otherwise noted. TSA State Competition DoubleTree Universal Orlando Orlando, Florida February 23-26, 2021 TSA National Competition Rosen Shingle Creek ResortOrlando, Florida June 23-27, 2020 EXPECTED COSTS Membership Dues - $75Leadership Conference--Approx $175 (optional attendance) Districts Competition Fees - $35(Included in Membership Dues)State Competition Fees - $90 Registration, Estimated $275 Hotel and Transportation Nationals Competition Fees - $100 Registration, Estimated $800 Hotel and TransportationFees for districts, state and national competitions, are estimated based on previous years. Fundraising throughout the year, along with sponsorship help to lower the cost of competitions for the chapter and individual members. In years past, placing first in an event at the State level earns payment for some of your fees to Nationals from the Adult Career and Technical Department (ACT) of the school district. Last year, the rate for Nationals was $750 for non-first place finishers, while first place finishers only had to pay the $100 registration fee.As a chapter, we work year-round to fund raise to help lower the cost paid by members. Participation in fundraising helps our chapter as a whole and benefits individual members. The officer team also works to find sponsorship for our chapter through local businesses and companies to help lower costs. If you have any ideas for fundraisers or businesses for sponsorship, please contact our Officer Board or Mrs. MITMENT LETTER As a member of the Southeast High School TSA Chapter, student are expected to uphold all expectations and abide by all rules as defined in our bylaws and our school and district codes of conduct. The highest level of professionalism is expected of our members as we stride to set a standard for SEHS TSA. Members are required to attend all chapter meetings (in their entirety), required workdays, fundraising events, community service events, the annual CTSO rally and competitions. A member has the possibility of being revoked from an event or the competitive team if they are not showing progress or effort. They are required to meet the timelines that are set and to meet with the mentors when outlined. Members and parents understand that the advisor’s say is final and that not meeting deadlines, not following rules in the bylaws and/or other inappropriate behavior can result in suspension or expulsion from TSA, without refund(s) of payments. By signing this form, both the parent and the student agree to the above and the following: to pay the nonrefundable membership fee, and understand there could be other payments during the year; understand and agree to the mentor program; understand that their student has the possibility of not attending the TSA competitions if the member’s project efforts are deemed unacceptable or have broken an chapter, school or district rules. Furthermore, signing indicates that the member and parents have read the 2020-21 TSA informational packet completely and understand all of its contents.
