The concept follows on from MOTORWORLD Region Stuttgart, which has established itself nationally and internationally as an acknowledged forum and meeting place for aficionados of a premium quality driving culture. The ensemble of listed buildings and the historic halls at Butzweilerhof are undergoing lavish refurbishment and new buildings are being added. The location, practically unused for decades, can look forward to a new future with the proven MOTORWORLD idea – without losing any of its historical character. With the opening of MOTORWORLD K?ln-Rheinland, one of the world's most significant collections from the world of motor sport will be moving in as well: The private collection of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher.A sustainable bridge will be spanned between the past and the future on the Butzweilerhof site in Cologne, where the majestic Zeppelin airships once found a home at the beginning of the 20th century, and also where "Luft Hansa” was based in the 1920s. MOTORWORLD K?ln-Rheinland is being developed here on an area covering more than 50,000 square metres. Plenty of space for historical treasures of mobility – on land, water, and in the air. MOTORWORLD – from the idea to successThis classic and sports car centre follows on the idea behind MOTORWORLD Region Stuttgart, which was opened in 2009 on the site of the former Württemberg state airport in B?blingen/Sindelfingen, and which has meanwhile established itself both nationally and internationally as a scene meeting point. Today, the centre has over 600,000 visitors a year. As in B?blingen (near Stuttgart), the MOTORWORLD location at Butzweilerhof will offer owners of vintage and classic cars and modern classics, through to luxury cars and motorbikes, the possibility of storing their treasures in fitting surroundings in glass boxes. Dealers in exclusive cars – premium brands such as Bentley, Lotus, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, McLaren, Porsche and Harley-Davidson – can be found at MOTORWORLD Stuttgart Region. Specialists catering to every need of the vehicle aficionados will also be moving in to MOTORWORLD K?ln-Rheinland; these include specialised workshops, as well as shops for supplies and accessories. As a true world for experiencing driving culture, MOTORWORLD K?ln-Rheinland will offer facilities in a pleasant atmosphere for meetings, conferences and events for between 2 and 2,000 people. The historic hangars at Butzweilerhof will be equipped accordingly. Overnight accommodation, in part in elaborately designed theme rooms, as well as restaurants and catering areas are planned. This centre for mobile passion will be open all year round – with free admission for every visitor. Hugely advantageous are the ideal traffic links to Butzenweilerhof with its direct connections to the A1 and A57 motorways.The architecture of MOTORWORLD K?ln-Rheinland will both retain the character of the listed historic airport facilities, and be expanded with modern buildings. Virtually unchanged in their structural shells and fa?ades, the existing buildings are undergoing extensive refurbishment. Inspired by the historical Bauhaus architecture, new glazed and extremely filigree connecting buildings are being constructed between Hangar 1, including the tower building, and Hangar 2, as well as the garage and reception building. One of the two hangars is being completely transformed into event space. A four-storey building, which alongside exhibiting space will also house a four star hotel with 120 rooms, will be integrated on the former works yard, which is today undeveloped. The historic runway with its characteristic concrete slabs, which also stands under monumental protection, will be left intact as a witness to times gone by. Around 500 parking spaces will be created on the grounds. The current plans foresee an investment in the order of 35 million euros in the project. Over 200 people will work at MOTORWORLD K?ln-Rheinland.The initiator and investor for the project is Cologne-based Butzweilerhof Nicolaus Otto Park GmbH & Co. KG, whose company name is also linked with historic roots. In 1876, Nicolaus August Otto invented the four-stroke Otto combustion engine in Cologne, which heralded the beginning of global motorisation.MOTORWORLD GroupAlongside the MOTORWORLD locations Region Stuttgart and K?ln-Rheinland, other centres in Munich and at the Ewald-Ruhr Colliery (in Herten, near Essen), as well as the MOTORWORLD Manufaktur in Berlin, are currently under development. The international MOTORWORLD Classics Berlin trade fair for classic cars takes place every year in the autumn.
