Happy Birthday to the students who celebrate birthdays in November! Congratulations to this week’s Star Student of the Week, Hailey Deokie!

Look What We Will Learn This Week!

Reading: This week, our class will begin to create literature responses about the stories we read. In the literature responses, we will tell the story elements of the stories we read as well as describe the main character with character traits.

Language Arts: Our class will review when to use –s or –es to show how nouns can be more than one. We will also learn how to make irregular nouns plural. In Writer’s Workshop, we will review how to write strong beginnings based on the writing trait of organization. Our class will complete personal narratives about themselves and begin personal narratives about special objects.

Math: We will do Math and Science activities with a pumpkin on Monday. Then, we will review related facts and learn about fact families. Lastly, we will solve word problems by using objects.

Science: We will measure objects using a ruler in inches. We will conduct Fall observations noting the temperatures and sunrise and sunset times.

Social Studies: We will use cardinal directions to locate objects on a map. Moreover, we will learn about elections for Election Day next week.

Word Study This Week

The third Fundations unit focuses on spelling words that follow the closed syllable exception rule. These are glued sounds that follow the pattern of a closed syllable, but have a long vowel sound instead of the usual short vowel sound. The glued sounds that follow this pattern are –ild, -ind, -old, -olt, and –ost.

Please have your child practice reading and spelling the trick words below as they do not follow the rules.
