List of NYC Free Tax Prep Sites

In-Person Tax Prep*--sit down with a volunteer preparer:

At in-person tax prep sites, knowledgeable IRS certified VITA/TCE volunteer preparers help filers complete an accurate tax return.

Drop-off Service*--drop off your documents and pick up your completed return later:

At drop-off service sites, filers can drop off their tax documents and pick up the completed return later.

*Families with dependents who earned $72,000 or less and individuals who earned $50,000 or less in 2021 can use NYC Free Tax Prep. Filers must follow New York State health guidelines, including wearing a mask and social distancing appropriately during visit. In addition, organizations may conduct screenings or have additional requirements.

Reminder: Before visiting an NYC Free Tax Prep Site, make sure you gather all your required tax documents.

For appointment only sites, filers should either call, or visit the website of the site to schedule their appointments.

Specialized Assistance: Certain NYC Free Tax Prep sites offer specialized assistance that include amending previous year's tax returns (Amended Returns), filing previous year tax returns (Prior Year Returns), returns for self-employed individuals (Self-employed/Schedule C) and ITIN CAA/ITIN Non-CAA application assistance.

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is a tax processing number issued by the IRS to foreign nationals and others who have federal tax reporting or filing requirements and do not qualify for Social Security numbers. Some sites can help you file an application for an ITIN. Certified Acceptance Agents (CAA) are authorized by the IRS and can help you file an application for an ITIN.
