Osteoporosis Management in Women Who Have Had A FractureOne prevention and screening measure for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Star ratings system and the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS?) is for osteoporosis management in women who had a fracture (OMW). It measures the percentage of women 67 years of age and older who suffered a fracture and who had either a bone mineral density (BMD) test or prescription for a drug to treat or prevent osteoporosis in the six (6) months after the fracture. Fractures of fingers, toes, face and skull are not included in this measure. Below are the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT?), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) and ICD-9-CM Procedure codes that indicate either a BMD test has been performed or a prescription has been given.CodeCode TypeDefinition76977CPT?Ultrasound bone density measurement and interpretation, peripheral site(s), any method77078CPT?Computed tomography, bone mineral density study, one or more sites; axial skeleton (e.g., hips, pelvis, spine)77079CPT?Computed tomography, bone mineral density study, one or more sites; appendicular skeleton (peripheral) (e.g., radius, wrist, heel)77080CPT?Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), bone density study, one or more sites; axial skeleton (e.g., hips, pelvis, spine)77081CPT?Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), bone density study, one or more sites; appendicular skeleton (peripheral) (e.g., radius, wrist, heel)77082CPT?Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), bone density study, one or more sites; vertebral fracture assessment77083CPT?Radiographic absorptiometry (e.g., photodensitometry, radiogrammetry), one or more sites G0130 HCPCS Single energy X-ray absorptiometry (SEXA) bone density study, one or more sites; appendicular skeleton (peripheral) (e.g., radius, wrist, heel)88.98ProcedureBone mineral density studiesFDA-Approved Osteoporosis TherapiesDescriptionPrescriptionJ CodesBiphosphonatesAlendronateAlendronate-cholecalciferolCalcium carbonate-risendronateIbandronateRisedronateZoledronic acidJ1740J3487, J3488Estrogensestradiol vaginal cream (Estrace?)estradiol vaginal insert (Estring?)estradiol valerate for injection?
