Basics & Intermediate ICD-10-CM Coding for Home Health
This course is designed to familiarize the learner with code assignments, recognize coding interactions with the OASIS, understand coding conventions and guidelines, and apply all to various scenarios routinely seen in home health and hospice.
• Coding conventions and guidelines: learn about conventions, guidelines and assumptions
• Creating a compliant record and impact on Payment: see how documentation, OASIS, coding all work together to affect Payment
• Z codes: learn when to assign Z codes in home health and hospice; includes traumatic and pathological fractures, amputations; wounds, including pressure ulcers, infected and non-healing surgical wounds, stasis ulcers and trauma wounds
• Diabetes: learn how to choose the right code when dealing with all the possible manifestations
• Cardiopulmonary, including hypertension, heart failure, and COPD versus emphysema
• CVA: learn to choose the right code to identify the sequela of the disease
• Neoplasms & anemia, including surgical aftercare for neoplasms, and the key changes in coding anemia associated with malignancy, and anemia resulting from chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiation therapy
• GI/GU, including how to report kidney disease (CKD), colitis and obstructions
• Poisoning and adverse effects: learn how to report these diagnoses in ICD-10
• Review of pertinent 2020 ICD-10 coding changes (effective October 1, 2019)
• Learn about important PDGM coding interactions
Presenter: Arlynn Hansell, PT, HCS-D, HCS-H, HCS-O, COS-C…Arlynn Hansell has been a Physical Therapist in both the home health and SNF settings since October 1998, holding positions of therapist, rehab manager, and quality/compliance assurance. Arlynn is the Owner of Therapy and More, LLC, an outsource company for OASIS review, ICD-10 coding for home health and hospice, therapy visit note audits, and end of episode quality reviews. In addition, she assists agencies in achieving therapy documentation and practice excellence in order to better position themselves against auditors.
Arlynn is appointed to the BMSC Home Health Advisory Panel, where she serves as Vice Chair. She was a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, where she served as the past Vice President of the Home Health Section. She is involved in the creation and editing of the HCS-D, HCS-O, HCS-H certification exams, and is the editor of the Home Care Clinical Specialist – OASIS D online guidance and the HCS-O Study Guide.
