Two Day ICD-10 CM Intermediate Coding Training

Learn how to sequence the most common home health diagnoses in ICD-10, including the new FY2018 code and guideline changes. More specifically, this training will cover:

• Discuss roles of coder, clinician and physician and interface with billing and OASIS

• Discuss Official guidelines and conventions including assumptions that can and cannot be assumed in ICD-10

• Learn when to apply the most common history, status and aftercare Z codes

• Coding for sepsis and infectious diseases and the difference between A and B codes

• Coding a variety of types of neoplasms and the key changes in coding anemia associated with malignancy, and anemia resulting from chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiation therapy.

• Coding for endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases

• Coding for behavioral disorders such as dementia & depression

• Coding for diseases of nervous system

• Coding for circulatory, including hypertension, heart failure, MI, late effects of CVAs and stasis & arterial ulcers

• Coding for respiratory system diseases with emphasis on COPD, pneumonia, influenza and asthma

• Coding for diseases of the digestive system

• Coding for diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue including pressure ulcers

• Coding for diseases for the musculoskeletal system including pathological fractures

• Coding for diseases of the genitourinary system

• Coding for injuries including traumatic fractures, complications and poisoning & adverse effects

Presenter: Judy Adams, RN, BSN, HCS-D, HCS-O…Judy Adams is President and Owner of Adams Home Care Consulting, Inc. and provides clinical and operational consultation and education services to home care, home health and hospice organizations. Judy’s experiences include working closely with regulators, third-party payers, occupational licensing boards and home care providers in the home and community settings.

Judy offers over 35 years of experience as a nurse executive and consultant. Her nursing experience includes educational, supervisory, administrative and staff positions in a variety of institutional and community health settings. For over eight years, she worked as the special projects coordinator for the second largest state home care and hospice association in the country and has worked as a consultant affiliated with two large national consulting firms.

For the past 20+ years, Judy has provided a variety of operational and clinical consultative services and has taught hundreds of teleconferences and day-long workshops on ICD-9 and ICD-10 diagnosis coding, OASIS, home health prospective payment system, coverage and documentation, Conditions of Participation and a variety of other clinical and regulatory home health and hospice topics for individual agencies, state associations and national organizations. She also regularly provides record reviews related to compliance with regulatory and third party payer guidelines for home health and hospice agencies as well as coding and OASIS accuracy reviews.
