DREHER HIGH SCHOOL: FRESHMAN CURRICULUM NOTES9th grade EnglishExpectationsThe 9th grade team teachers operate under very rigorous and high academic expectationsAll students will be expected to complete, at a minimum, 3-4 full-length, intensive research and/or argument essays during the 9th grade yearEach essay is embedded with many processes and stepsThis does not include other, shorter essays and writing assignments that will take place during the yearMajor online platforms utilized in 9th grade English:USA TestPrep; ; NoRedInkWe attempt to keep online platforms/applications outside of Teams as minimal as possible to help students keep up with it all logistically, but virtual learning has forced our hand in the use of a few of these!SUMMER READINGAs of this past school year, summer reading expectations and assignments were altered to account for the massive change in circumstances at the end of the 2019-2020 school yearThis change allowed students to read texts of their choosing and enjoyment, and complete short responses on the texts as they wentLast year, this assignment was 100% student chosen texts, and they completed their reading and responses in a “Literary Bingo Card” format. We will do something similar this year. MAJOR TEXTS:Units will be anchored by core texts.
