-914400-160020000Academy Newsletter No 4Monday 3rd August 2015Dear Players and Parents,We move onto week 4 of the 2015-2016 season and a great seven days has saw two more academy players earn trials with professional clubs, construction begin on the new Quay3G and lots of success in the Bolton Wanderers International Tournament. Quay 3G Construction Begins!Last week work commenced on the football clubs brand new 3G football pitch. The half a million pound facility has been funded via ?350,000 from the Football Association of Wales (FAW) and the UEFA Hat Trick Programme alongside a ?150,000 investment from gap personnel, the owners of gap Connah's Quay Nomads Football Club. The new 3G facility will replace the old synthetic carpet currently at Connah's Quay High School, and as well as a new full size 11v11 3G, the facility will also get new fencing, floodlights and will have three full size 7-a-side pitch markings with six goals for use, as well as netting going across all pitches for team or recreation use.The pitch will also include home and away dug outs as well as a small stand for parents and spectators to enjoy training and games for juniors and senior players. This will allow not only training for sides but also competitive and non competitive fixtures. The facility will be used Monday to Friday for all of the PE curriculum at Connah's Quay High School. Along with football, the pitch is able to host rugby and hockey among other sports due to the multi-use 3G type of surface which has been purchased. This will ensure that all pupils in years 7-13 at Connah's Quay High School will be able to follow the PE curriculum and represent the school in a number of sports on a top class facility of which they can be proud. The pitch can also be used by local children in half terms for multi use sports camps which is to be run by the Football Club. The pitch will be managed by gap Connah's Quay Nomads Monday to Friday from the hours of 17:00-22:00, making it available to all of the local Connah's Quay/Deeside clubs, including Connah's Quay Tigers, Deeside Phoenix, Deeside Dragons, gap Northop Hall Girls, Ewloe Harriers and Aston Park Rangers who have already committed to bookings on the facility. As well as this, there are available time slots on Saturdays and Sundays offering opportunities for junior and senior fixtures to be played. The Nomads Academy Director and First Team Assistant Manager, Jay Catton said "A massive day, biggest day in my opinion for the Club's history and for the Club's future - the new 3G is not going to just be for the football club, it's the local community as well... what this 3G is going to give us is going to be unbelieveable and we need to really thrive on this opportunity to maximise everything that we are going to go going forwards."You can listen to Jay Catton's full interview below on following link: Academy 2 More Academy Players Earn Trials at Professional ClubsUnder 15 Junior Scott and under 11 Rafael Endemano have gained trials at Wrexham and Everton Football Club.Junior is a fast paced winger who joined the academy last season and put in some very impressive performances which have caught the eye of Wrexham football club.Rafael Endemano has been at the academy now for over two years and during that time has also trialled at Liverpool football club. He has another opportunity to gain a great experience at Everton Football Club.We wish both players all the best during their time at both clubs.List of Academy players to trial at professional clubs 2015/16:Jayden Jones Under 8 - Manchester CityHarry Serridge Under 9 - Manchester CityReagen Nicholas Under 9 - Wrexham AFCJunior Scott Under 15 - Wrexham AFCRafael Endemano Under 11 - EvertonWe hope to see this list increase over the season and hopefully add even more to the following list of academy graduates who have progressed from ourselves to sign for professional clubs:Alex Peters U14 (Bury)Luke Blizzard U12 (Wrexham)Thomas Bridges U12 (Liverpool)Jamie Nash U9 (Wrexham)Daniel Spaven U11 (Wigan)Sam Williams U11 (Wigan)Daniel Malone U11 (Stoke City)Dominic Elsey McHugh U13 (Stoke City)Rhys Schofield U11 (Wigan)Rhys Healey Youth/First Team (Cardiff City)Joe Brett U14 (Tranmere Rovers)Jay Jay bell U10 (Wrexham)Billy Nicholas U12 (Wrexham)Harvey Tattum U13 (Stoke City)Steffan knight U11 (Wrexham)Ryan Edwards Youth/First Team (TNS 1st team)Vimal Yoganathan U9 (Liverpool)Louis Wynne U9 (Wrexham)Daniel Mayers Jones U9 (Manchester United)Dylan Evans U9 (Stoke City)Kai Evans U11 (Stoke City)Max Cleworth U13 (Wrexham)Alex Hughes U8 (Wigan Athletic)Bolton Tournament ReviewA superb few days at Bolton Wanderers Academy saw our under 8, 9 and 16 sides win their age group sections in the tournament!A superb four days in Bolton saw eight of our academy sides enjoy four great days at the football clubs academy venue. Our teams faced professional clubs including Bolton Wanderers as well as international sides from countries including Kenya and Colombia.A great experience which was superb tool for pre season and we had lots of success also with three of our sides winning the whole event! All coaches have put together a brief review of the few days. Remember full match reports and player stats are updated on the website by all coaches on their individual team pages also.Photos were taken of all sides over the first three days. These have been added to our Facebook page on following link in three albums: 8The under 8s had a great lead up to the Bolton tournament as they had faced Elite Academy, Manchester City and Everton the previous week.Unfortunately due to lack of number of teams the event was reduced to a single day but the under 8s showed their quality winning all of their games in the league stage against sides from Runcorn and Manchester.Without a goalkeeper the players all had a go in between the sticks and played some great football along the way winning the final by two goals to nil. Some great performances through out but special mention must go to Fintan Smithies who was exceptional through out and led the team well.Scott Jones Under 8 CoachUnder 9Our U9s had a fantastic few days at the Bolton Tournament with just the bare amount of players we only lost one game in the comp and winning their final 2-0 against a very good Runcorn Town team.Jayden Evans worked well as our striker and scored some superb goals. Our midfield showed great skill and work rate with Niall Griffiths one of our top performers over the whole tournament.Connor Davies was a constant threat down the right with Reagan Nicholas coming in to the team to give us a bit of extra flair in centre mid. But our defending was outstanding and how we played out from the back was a joy to watch with Jack Casey and Jake Gudger both putting in brilliant performances.Rhys Williams was another who came into the team on the final day and also played very well, and he stepped in to go in goal for the final in which he was instrumental in how we played out of defence.Overall it was pleasing how we coped with the bare 7 players with all mucking in to share goalkeeper duty.Mark rowlands under 9 coachUnder 10The Under 10's played well in patches for the majority of the weekend. We lost only 2 games against Bolton Academy who were a strong team and got beaten on penalties in the 3rd place playoff.A lot of strong performances from individual including trialists. Overall, it was a good workout for pre season and good platform for players to build on throughout the season! All stats and match reports on the team website.Jordan Mapp jones - under 10 coachUnder 11After a challenging first day with playing Powerful African team first up on Day 1 and then a team not showing up in afternoon the boys showed great character and displayed their quality on Day 2/3, deservedly coming away with the International Plate in an Age group above!!Day 3 was a pleasure to watch, the lads knocked the ball about at will and performed with great assurance and oozed confidence!!After a tough start the tournament it turned out to be a perfect pre season activity and gives me plenty of excitement for the season ahead, it gave me a good opportunity to have a look at a couple of trialists too which is a bonus, all stats & reports are on website.Danny Mapp jones - under 11 coachUnder 13After two tough days Nomads 13's returned for day 3 to play in the Plate Final vs Airbus. Following two tough days Nomads were left with only 11 fit players. The game was far from a classic with both teams showing tiredness and the first half lacked any real quality from both sides. Airbus took the lead with virtually the last kick of the first half really poor defending from Nomads as the ball was allowed to bounce in the six yard box from a corner Airbus player left with a easy tap in.With a few strong words at half time nomads come out the better team moving the ball alot better and as game went on Airbus were happy just to see the game out Nomads hit the cross bar late on but it just wasn't to be. Airbus ran out 1-0 winners to claim the trophyAfter 3 great days of football its time to reflect on the tournament as a whole. There is alot of positives to take out of the tournament firstly playing a year up against Academy standard teams and also coming from two goals down, this showed real desire and team spirit. There are of course things to work on and the lads know what these are but they are still young and learning so there will be mistakes along the way but they will learn from these mistakes. Finally a big well done to all the players for giving 100 % and for the parents for supporting the lads over a long tough weekend.Anthony Weaver - Under 13 CoachUnder 14The under 14s had a mixed bag of results with 2 defeats, two draws and two wins. It was great to see the team together for this length of time with a lot of new additions for the new academy season.James Worthington deserves special mention for his four goals playing up front in the four nil win over FC Striker of Manchester. The team second half performance on the final day against Bolton Wanderers was also superb.Huge well done to all players.Leighton Sumner - Under 14 CoachUnder 16After 7 games in 4 days which saw the Nomads 16s win 5 draw 1 and 1 loss scoring 22 goals and only conceed 5 it was all down to the last game.Having already drawn 2-2 v CMB they knew what to expect however CMB werent ready for what Nomads were about to throw at them. The Ko was delayed through an injury to a player on the match previous yet Nomads drove forward from the KO and won the final thanks to goals from Louis Phelan and Jack Foster.A tremendous achievement by this talented group of players.Kevin Manley - Under 16 CoachUnder 17 - scholar 1st yearsThe Bolton Wanderers International Tournament was the first opportunity we as a club have had to see the new intake of scholars together as 1 squad. Despite being put into the U18 age bracket, the squad, comprised solely of U17s, and 2 U16's competed superbly, and can be proud of their performances over the 2 days, winning 1, drawing 1, and losing 2 of their matches. The first game of the tournament saw us face a strong Liverpool FC Foundation College squad in windy conditions. The scholars gained a 1-1 draw through a very impressive and energetic performance, and even saw arguably the goal of the tournament, a 30 yard lob from Joe Johnson. The second game we faced a very strong and mobile Colombian side and unfortunate lost the game 3-1, with Iwan Rogers scoring the goal.On day 2 we faced another strong side in Garswood United. We found ourselves 2-0 down after 10 minutes however the players heads didn't drop, helped by the very influential George Coulton captaining the side. The second half saw an accomplished performance with some very impressive attacking play, in particular from wingers Sam Haddon and Owen Ainscough, resulting in the side coming back to win 5-3.The final came came against the strongest side we played, Coaching Connections. Unfortunately we lost the game 4-0 but the players can hold their heads up after battling for every ball, and working for each other. During the game we had 5 of the 12 players carrying injuries, so the players can be very proud of the way they carried on, with no moaning or making excuses. This tournament has made us realise the ability of this group, and we are optimistic and excited for the season ahead.Danny Reece - scholars coachUnder 18 - Scholars 2nd YearsA fantastic tournament which was an up and down event to say the least for our under 18 side.A horrific start was probably an understatement for day one after a lot of individuals errors and poor team play saw the side lose both games 3-1 and 4-1 and was a massive wake up for the side. After a long meeting and discussion following day one the side really pulled together over the final two days. With a change of shape and middle block press implemented the side responded on day two with a 5-0 win against the side they had lost on day one to 4-1 and a very professional 1-0 win over Myerscough College.Day three saw the introduction of four first year scholars who stepped up superbly to see the side defeat Colombian side two nil and then end the week on a huge high defeating Royal Liverpool 3-1 who they had lost on day one to on the same score line.A great achievement by the side and the response following day one to top the league was great. But vital lessons learnt and sets the whole scholars sides up well for the remainder of pre season and the 2015/16 campaign.Jay Catton - Under 18 Scholars CoachFixture Details for this weekAll of our sides are in action this week against Elite Knowsley Academy, touring USA sides, Shrewsbury Town and Rhyl FC Academy Tournament. Our fixtures kick off tomorrow evening in games at Chester 3G pitch against touring USA Super Clubs sides. We apologies for the lateness in confirming this fixture but they have been let down last minute and we were only asked yesterday. As always it is an opportunity and at our academy we will always take these.
