SMALLBORE RIFLE

Wayne Nunn

We had a good match in December, with a good crowd…twelve folks in all with two juniors. The wind got a little crazy late in the day. “Thank you!” goes out to the shooters who rushed the match though trying beat the rain, that did not appear as soon as the weatherman said. The scores in ALL CLASSES are getting closer, indicating improved shooting by everyone.

Wayne Nunn took top honors in the Conventional Prone category with 791-34x, followed by Kelly Jeane Pyne with 787-30x. On the F Class end of the line, John Gaines was tops with 767-29x followed by Jeff Huehn with 765-26x.

Our next monthly Small Bore Rifle Match this coming Saturday the Jan. 9th at the STMTC Range on Blackhawk.  Match starts at 0900 so get there at 0800 to setup and have some warm-up time. This will be an 80 shot match.  Cost is $15.00 for adults and $5.00 for juniors.

HIGHPOWER RIFLE

John Kelly

On December 6th, we held the J.C.Garand Pearl Harbor Remembrance Match. Overall winner was Jose Duran, a junior, shooting a 237-1x.  Second place was Rene Gonzalez with a 226.  We had a new shooter with us, Fred Bates from Crane, Texas, who was visiting his daughter over the weekend.  The results may also be viewed on the CMP's Competition Tracker website.

After the Garand Match, we held the M-1 Carbine Rattle Battle.  There were five participants trying for the Ken Slade M-1 Carbine Rattle Battle trophy.  After the dust settled, it was Dennis Anguiano who had the most hits on target, with 42.

The next scheduled High Power training match will be held on January 17th, at the CTSA Range, New Braunfels. Match fee is $20 for adults and $10 for juniors and active military. Gate should be open by 0730, followed by sign-up. Fun begins at 0815 for set up and first rounds down range at 0900.

The High Power training schedule has been updated for 2016 on the organization's calendar. Training matches are held on the third Sunday of the month, except for the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Match, which is the 1st Sunday of December. There is an exception in July. July's match will be held on the last Saturday, July 30th. This is your chance to come out on a Saturday to shoot with us.

I need a couple volunteers to help assist with running the monthly training matches when I'm not able to. We haven't had to cancel a match yet, as the same people volunteer to cover for me, but we need someone else to help out. Please let me know if you are able to help.

DEFENSE / TACTICAL

Fredd Bergman

This month we will be shooting or carbine drill at 9:00am, January 24th at Blackhawk. You will need 350 of rifle ammunition, and if you want to practice transitions during movement drills, ring 100-200 rounds for that. Feel free to wear whatever you’d like, as long as appropriate for the weather, and remember solid footgear. At least two magazines for each gun you want to run, and more is better. Law enforcement, bring patrol or other duty gear. Military, minimum to full kit. Civilians will do better to have at least LBE with mag pouch(es), but you can just use your pockets. We want to make sure everyone feels welcome. As always, preregistration and prescreening are required. Call Fredd at 210-619-9340, or write to tactics@ .

Also, STMTC will be at the New Braunfels gun show 16 and 17 January, so come out and visit us. It is held at the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce Civic/Convention Center, 375 S. Castell Ave., between Seguin and Castell. We will have tickets for the new raffle, so bring money!
