Parts of Speech and its definitions
I = interjection - a word that expresses feelings or emotions
V = verb - a word that shows actions, links a subject, or states a fact
A = adjective - a word that describes a noun
N = noun - a person, place, thing, or idea
C = conjunction - a word that links words, phrases, clauses, or sentences
A = adverb - a word that describes a verb, adjective or another adverb
P = pronoun - a word that takes the place of a noun
P - preposition - a connecting word that relates one word to another especially with location and direction
Examples: above, around, at, before, by, during, except, from, in
like, near, of, on, over, since, through, up, under, until, with
Definitions for nouns:
1.) common noun: a general person, place, thing, or idea
2.) proper noun: a specific person, place, thing, or idea
3.) singular noun: one person, place, thing, or idea
4.) plural noun: more than one person, place, thing, or idea
5.) possessive noun: shows ownership
Make sure you memorize the following:
1. conjunctions: and, or, but, so, yet, nor, for
2.) difficult adverbs: very, not, often, soon, almost
remember common adverbs end in -ly
3.) prepositions: see list above
4.) linking verbs: is, was, were, am
