2021 Maddox Application Template

The text below is how the questions appear on our application portal. Please be aware that formatting in a Microsoft Word document (or other text editor) may not appear the same when pasted into our application.

Instructions

In 2020, local foundations started implementing a common application. Participating foundations include The Healing Trust, Joe C. Davis Foundation, the Boedecker Foundation, The Memorial Foundation, and the Turner family foundations. Knowing that many of our applications asked similar questions, the goal of a common application is to reduce the grant writing burden for our partners. In 2020, the Maddox Fund will move the narrative section of our application to the common application with some flexibility.

For nonprofits applying to multiple foundations, the common application should reduce your submission time. However, if Maddox is the only foundation supporting your work, the new common application could seem longer and more arduous. For that reason, we have limited the required questions and made some common application questions optional (if you have them written, you can cut and paste, if not it is your choice to complete or not). The optional questions will not impact the outcome of your application or grant amount.

If your organization would like to submit an alternative form of application or requires language/translation assistance, please contact Maddox staff.

Equity

The Maddox Fund made a commitment to racial equity in 2017 through study and in 2019 through voice and action. We invite you to visit Equity Resource Page and to think about how you, and the organization you serve, can gain a deeper understanding of anti-racism and racial equity. Many of our partners are advancing equity in their contexts, but no matter where we start in our self-education, there is always more we can do to dismantle historic systems that marginalize our neighbors and create new liberating systems to take their place.

Commitment to Equity: The Maddox Fund is committed to helping create a more just and equitable community. We fulfill this commitment with our partners by recognizing and addressing the systemic injustices that have marginalized communities and continue to leave many people behind. We engage in and reimagine partnerships to advance education, marginalized youth and wildlife conservation.

Undergirding this commitment is the conviction that all human beings are interconnected, not just with one another, but with all of nature – a belief that makes our desire to foster connection and a sense of belonging even more urgent.

Values

• We believe education and knowledge are transformative.

• We champion just and equitable systems and policies.

• We manage our resources with integrity and transparency.

• We embrace the shared responsibility to better our community and protect our wildlife habitats.

• We honor the voices of marginalized communities.

• We engage our work with humility and curiosity.

• We celebrate courageous leadership.

Definitions
