Question 1:

Dear Health Insurance Expert,

My financial advisor has recommended that I get disability insurance, but I’m not sure it is worth the cost. I’m an engineer making a good salary. My wife is staying at home for a few years taking care of our three young children. Through my company we have a good group health insurance plan. I’d like your advice on whether disability insurance would be worth the price for me, and if so, why.

Sincerely,

A Confused Dad

Question 2:

Dear Health Insurance Expert,

I’m a retired architect who is facing some rising health care costs. My husband and I have both been diagnosed with diabetes, and though we have been taking care of ourselves, we fear that our medical expenses will continue to rise as we get older. I am 64 and my husband is 65. Because of our pre-existing conditions, we have found it difficult to find affordable health insurance. What do you recommend we do?

Sincerely,

Worried Sick in Tulsa

Question 3:

Dear Health Insurance Expert,

I’ve been seeing a great private doctor in my community for the last 10 years. This past month I started a new job, with an option to join a new health insurance plan. I have a choice between an HMO, something called a PPO, and a fee-for-service plan. I don’t understand the difference between them. All I know is that I want to keep my family doctor. What do you recommend I do?

Sincerely,

A Loyal Patient
