Subject: Old Portal Retires May 18; Learn More about the New BIDMC Portal

The old BIDMC portal website, found at home., will retire at 9 p.m. on May 18 and the new BIDMC Portal, portal., will become the single portal for all BIDMC physicians and employees.

The same user name and password you use to access applications on the old portal will be required to access all applications and information on the new BIDMC Portal. Please note that if it has been 90 days since you have logged in to any BIDMC system, you must contact the IS Help Desk to determine how to re-establish your credentials (see below).

Be sure to visit the Portal Help section, found at the top of every page, for online videos, frequently asked questions and other information.

Here are some key facts about the new portal:

▪ Single sign-on saves time for clinicians. When you sign on to the portal, start by hovering over the “Applications” button on the top left of the main page. Most-used applications are shown, and there is a “more” button at the bottom of that list that will take you to a complete list of links to clinical and all other applications.

▪ Customize the portal for YOU. Every time you log in, the areas you use most can be at your fingertips. You can put your most frequently used links and applications on the front page of “your” portal, including links to CareWeb, the BIDPO website and BIDPO Provider Directory, NEHEN, the online BIDMC Referral Guide and more. Look for “Manage my Links” and “Manage my Applications” on the main portal page. You can customize this area so that every time you sign on – from any computer – you see your favorites on the homepage. On each content page on the portal, you’ll find a quick link to automatically add that page to your “My Links” list.

▪ Use more customization. In addition to your “My Apps” and “My Links” lists, the Portal automatically displays your 10 most recently visited sites. Even better, when you are in main tab pages of Clinical, Education, Research and Employee Central, your My Links in those sections also appear.

▪ The new portal is secure. Password protection means information created, stored and used on the portal will now be protected from prying and pilfering by outside users and search engines. The portal also brings BIDMC in line with new Massachusetts Data Protection regulations that require greater protection of not just patient information, but also staff information such as phone numbers, addresses and other personal data. Logging in one or two times a month will ensure your user name and password stay active

▪ Information is easier to find. The content has been reorganized and old, outdated material is gone.

▪ The search function is better. You have the option of searching on key words and specific areas of the portal.

▪ BIDMC news and events are on the front page. Full stories and more information are just another click away.

▪ Most departments have their own Intranet (i.e. Interpreter Services, Nutrition, IS, or Pharmacy). Find them from the main “Intranets” tab.

Important – Always remember to log off once your portal session is done!

Since the official launch in June 2010, many BIDMC staff have transitioned to the new BIDMC portal and use it daily. We realize that many still use the old portal daily or occasionally, so the time to become familiar with the new BIDMC Portal is now! Please share this information with your office staff who may have ITS accounts and use the BIDMC portal to access BIDPO and other applications, as this will also apply to them.
