The State Bar of California recommends that students planning to take the bar examination begin to apply and complete information during their last year of law school. Below is information for students who are in their last year and taking the California Bar Examination. For students taking a bar examination in another state, please go to the National Bar Association’s site Ready to Apply for the California Bar Examination (CBE)Preparing to apply for the California Bar Examination—:□Download application form from the CBE Website. (Although students apply online, use the hardcopy to complete the information ahead of time to ensure you have all the required information.) □Laptop users will need to apply to take the bar examination on your computer. (The State Bar estimates the number of applicants using a laptop and reserves that number of spaces. Don’t lose out, register early for this process.)□Are you registered as a law student? The State Bar requires all students who plan to take the California Bar to register as a law student within 45 days of enrollment. (If you have not registered, you can still do so; however, there will be a late fee accessed.) The registration number is needed for the examination.□The State Bar is currently asking applicants to place their LSAC number on your MBE portion of the examination. If you do not have that number, you can get it from the LSAC.□Applicants that are filing for accommodations due to a documented disability should apply early via the Testing Accommodation application. Document how your disability applies to test taking and the bar examination. For further questions see Angela Bayne or Lisa Ferreira in Student Services.Preparing to apply for the Moral Character Application—CA State Bar website :□Gather information on the places you have lived since the age of 18 years old.□Write down all the places where you have worked since the age of 18 years of age. The State Bar will attempt to locate your past employers for information.□Download the packet of information and complete prior to submission.□Livescan fingerprinting needs to be done for the application. The formal moral character application must be submitted within 90 days of the livescan.□If you have any convictions or arrest, check in with Student Services or an attorney on how this may impact you. See the State Bar website on rehabilitation; especially for substance abuse related charges. This information is also available at the Graduation Fair.□Moral character determinations are good for three years. Therefore, applicants may apply early. This is particularly recommended for applicants who may have concerns regarding past violations, arrests, or convictions. Please note this is supplied as a courtesy and does not intend to be an exhaustive list of all requirements for the bar examination or for admission. ................
