Areas of study include Network Security, Compliance and Operational Security, Threats and Vulnerabilities, Application, Data and Host Security, Access Control and Identity Management and Cryptography. Courses are aligned with CompTia standards. Emphasis will be placed on personal and professional ethics and students will explore a variety of career opportunities. Students will utilize problem-solving techniques and participate in laboratory activities to develop an understanding of course concepts, and teachers should provide each student with real world learning opportunities and instruction related to occupations in computer repair and networking. Safety instruction is integrated into all activities. Content Skill Sets are based on testing objectives for the CompTIA A+ 220-901 certification. Students utilize problem-solving techniques and participate in hands-on activities to develop an understanding of course concepts. Teachers should provide each student with real world learning opportunities and instruction. Students are encouraged to become active members of the student organization, SkillsUSA. All West Virginia teachers are responsible for classroom instruction that integrates learning skills, technology tools and skill sets. 1665 CompTIA A+ 220-1002:This course covers installing and configuring operating systems including Windows, iOS, Android, Apple OS X and Linux. It also addresses security, the fundamentals of cloud computing and operational procedures. Content Skill Sets are based on testing objectives for the CompTIA A+ 220-902 certification. Students utilize problem-solving techniques and participate in hands-on activities to develop an understanding of course concepts. Teachers should provide each student with real world learning opportunities and instruction. Students are encouraged to become active members of the student organization, SkillsUSA. All West Virginia teachers are responsible for classroom instruction that integrates learning skills, technology tools and skill sets. 1694Networking+ This course introduces the student to the knowledge base and technical skills related to networking. Areas of study include media and topologies, protocols and standards, network implementation and network support. Content Skill Sets are based on testing objectives for the CompTIA Network+ certification. Emphasis will be placed on personal and professional ethics and students will explore a variety of career opportunities. Students utilize problem-solving techniques and participate in hands-on activities to develop an understanding of course concepts. Teachers should provide each student with real world learning opportunities and instruction. Students are encouraged to become active members of the student organization, SkillsUSA. All West Virginia teachers are responsible for classroom instruction that integrates learning skills, technology tools and skill sets.Assessment Plan:Students will be assessed by completing on-hand and virtual labs. Students are expected to complete practice questions at the end of each topic covered with an 85% or better score. Two cumulative tests per semester, a mid-term and final exam will be given.Participation in Simulated WorkplaceGrading Scale: 100 – 90 = A 89 – 80 = B 79 – 70 = C 69 – 60 = D 59 – 0 = F Grading Policy: Students will be graded on the following: weekly performance and participation, competency of skill, quantity of work, quality of work, and WIN testing, portfolio. Timeline for Program Activities:First Quarter: Safety and Simulated Workplace Introductions and Testing; Work projects as appropriate; Portfolio Development (Juniors and Seniors) and WIN for Seniors. Second Quarter: Skills USA, Portfolio Development and Senior WIN Testing. Projects will follow Skill Set Checklists provided by the WVDE.Third Quarter: Portfolio Development; various projects and testing according to Skill Sets. Junior WIN testing. Certification testing for students in various technologies. Fourth Quarter: Portfolio Completion, skill set checklists from WVDE to ensure following standards and guidelines. All safety rules must be followed at all times - NO EXCEPTIONS!Respect your teacher and peersRespect school and peer property.No horseplay in the classroom or the hallways.All drinks must be in a lidded container. Food is allowed as long as all trash is disposed of properly.Proper work place attire must be worn.Work areas must be kept clean, orderly, organized, and clutter-free. Rules may be altered, deleted, or added at the discretion of Mr. LopezClassroom Participation:Students are expected to participate in all classroom activities. They will work both individually and as pat of a team to complete assignments. We use the Simulated Workplace model and students will have the opportunities to be in leadership roles, therefore, interaction and participation is a must for success.Attendance/Make Up Work:Attendance is taken daily and make-up work will only be given for excused absences. Safety/Emergency Procedure:Safety procedures will be followed at all times, no exceptions.
