Call for 2020 ASB Annual Meeting Symposium Proposals The American Society of Biomechanics (ASB) is sending out this call for research symposium proposals for the ASB 44th Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA, August 4-7, 2020. We are seeking highly innovative and impactful symposia organized by ASB members. Priority for selection will be given to symposia that include one or all of the following:Provide a bridge between basic science, engineering and/or clinical domainsTopics that address contemporary, novel and/or controversial issuesEncourage debate between presenters and/or the audienceAre highly educational and encourage discussion among attendeesInclude a diverse group of speakers that bring unique approaches or perspectives to the topicSymposium Format:Each symposium will have a 1 hour time slot with 2-4 speakers There should be at least a 10 minute moderated panel, audience discussion, or another interactive format at the end Proposal Format:Proposals should be no more than 2 pages (single spaced). Proposals should include the following:Organizer name, institution and contact information Confirmation that organizer is an ASB member in good standing (regular or student) Symposium titleDescription of symposium including: Background/significanceExplanation of how the symposium addresses the selection prioritiesDescription of the presenters and their unique contributions(s) to the symposiumDescription of the symposium format, how the audience will be involved, if there is a debate, how will it be structured and moderated and by whom (if not the Chair) etc.Review Process:Proposals will be evaluated by the ASB Executive Board. Proposals will be evaluated based on the quality of the proposal and appropriateness for the ASB community.The symposium organizer will be notified by March 1, 2020 about the Board’s decision on whether to include the symposium in the conference program. Additional Notes:As a general rule, ASB will not provide any support for travel or other expenses for symposium speakers or organizers. However, limited support (e.g. discounted registration) may be available for some speakers who do not typically attend the ASB meeting but would make a significant contribution.
