2. Technical Drafting Specs

2. Technical Drafting Specifications

Q-CAD uses the following set of drafting criteria for all projects outlined below:

Default – Applies to all CAD projects

Optional – Client Selected

Samples of our work are available at:

Samples include architectural, civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural

Floorplans, Elevations, Details, & Sections Coordination: (Default)

During our drafting process, the building floor plans, elevations, details, and sections are coordinated to assure dimensional accuracy throughout the entire plan set. Fenestration doors and windows on the elevations are automatically coordinated with the floorplan.

Multi-Story Stacking: (Default)

In cases of multi-story buildings, the plans are redrawn to ensure core elements such as stairwells, elevators, plumbing; etc aligns vertically within the building.

.CTB File (Default)

An AutoCAD .CTB or Microstation .TBL file is provided to set lineweights and colors for plotting. For example, objects such as doors, windows, and toilets are defined with specific lineweights for plotting.

Drafting Standards: (Default)

When plumbing, mechanical, and electrical sheets are overlaid onto an architectural background, the architectural background is half-toned. This creates sheets in which the mechanical or electrical elements are accentuated on the architectural background.

AutoCAD “Snap” Command: (Default)

Our CAD operators use the AutoCAD “Snap” command to create a 100% connection for every line.

Combine Floorplans: (Optional Add-On)

When floorplans or individual elevations have been created using multiple sheets, the CAD file is created as an overall, composite. Q-CAD provides both the combined plans as well as the original sheet layouts.

Before (Individual Sheets)

After (Combined Sheet)

Polygon Layer: (Optional Add-On)

A polygon layer is added as a “layer” using either the BOMA (drawn to wall centerline) or Institutional standards (drawn to inside face of walls). The polygon contains a room information block that includes: room name, room number, calculated square footage. These attributes are created for each room and for the overall building. The data can also be exported to MS Excel.

Polygon Layer (RED) Room Export

Sheet Set Manager: (Optional – No additional fee)

For large buildings, this feature is used to maintain cross-referencing integrity between sheets in a set of drawings. This feature automatically updates sheet numbers throughout a set as sheets are added or moved. The "Sheet Set Manager" also serves as a way to gain an overview of your drawing set in a way similar to the table of contents of a book. When you use the sheet set manager, you can view a list of all the drawings in your project and quickly find and open the drawing you need to work on.

Unclear Original Data: (Default)

When data on the original documents is unclear or difficult to interpret, the CAD operator creates a “README” layer in the CAD file. For each unclear entity that appears in the converted CAD file, the CAD operator inserts a “red box”. The red box is an identifier that displays the unclear data. Our clients can then quickly zoom into the unclear area and make any necessary modifications. The “README” layer also goes through four levels of QA and will remain after Level 4 QA only in cases where the data was too unclear on the original sheets to convert.

Data Conflicts (Default)

Since, Q-CAD operators manually redraw each entity shown on the original document, occasionally a dimension shown on the original document will conflict with the measurement scaled by our operator. In such cases, the actual dimension shown on the document is used as the default. Therefore, we can ensure that all of our conversions are dimensionally correct.

Redline Markups: (Optional Add-On)

The PDF file exported from AutoCAD/Microstation can be used by Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 or 8 to add redline markups. The PDF file is saved to “enable commenting” using the free Acrobat Reader.

Before (Redline Markup) After (Updated CAD file)

File Types: (Default)

Project communications and data sharing must be fast and versatile. Q-CAD automatically provides multiple file formats, of the same CAD drawing, for seamless data sharing:

1. CAD format (DWG, DGN):

AutoCAD and Microstation formats provide ability to edit the drawing.

2. PDF-color format:

This color PDF export is used for client presentations, by non-technical reviewers, and for email due to its small file size.

3. PDF-black format:

This format is setup with fonts and lineweights for easy plotting. It can also be used for future redline markups using Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 or 8 (free from Adobe)

4. TIF:

This original sheet scan format is used as an historical archive.

Corrections: (Default)

Q-CAD guarantees all work for 12 months from the date of completion. If errors or omissions are detected, the user can simply redline the document and submit it to Q-CAD for corrections with 24 – 48 hours.

Warranty and Quality Control

Q-CAD assures the highest degree of quality and accuracy for each converted CAD file. Converted files are checked and rechecked to make sure that all CAD standards were followed and that the document was converted accurately.

Q-CAD performs four levels of quality assurance (QA) for each converted CAD file. If errors are detected at any level, the file is returned to the original CAD operator for corrections. Once corrections have been made, the file re-enters the Level 1 – Level 4 QA process again. Upon successfully passing each level of QA, the converted CAD file is distributed to the client. The information below outlines the Q-CAD QA procedures:

▪ Level 1-QA: CAD operator converts and then checks the CAD file to make sure that all instructions and standards were followed. When the CAD operator is confident that the file is complete, it is then passed to Level 2-QA.

▪ Level 2-QA: Level 2 CAD manager plots converted file and compares it to original document for errors or omissions. The file is also reviewed for compliance with all special instructions, layering schemes and standards. If the file is 100% accurate the file will be passed to Level 3-QA.

▪ Level 3-QA: Level 3 CAD manager checks corrected file for quality assurance. Compliance with all instructions and standards are checked again.

▪ Level 4-QA: Level 4 CAD manager visually compares and approves that the electronic file matches the original document. At this point, the files are approved to be sent to the client.

Item 2: Technical Capability

Item 2: Technical Capability
