This Week’s Lesson and Classwork

This week we will be studying the Color Wheel and learning about color theory.

Please view the lesson slides for the information. You will need to pay very close attention to the information and skills in this lesson. A good understanding of the content is essential for completing the practices and projects. You MUST view the information slides prior to beginning. If you need help contact me.

• Complete optical Illusion Color Wheel

Use the video link to learn how to draw optical illusion cones (see packet if you do not have internet resources)

o You must have 12 sections total

o Within each section you should alternate color, gray, color, gray, etc from center outward.

o Each section around should go in order of the colors on the color wheel.

o Do your best to make the cones look rounded using shading and highlights.

(Colored pencils or crayons are recommended mediums for this project)

• Complete Color Scheme Op-Art . Take your time and enjoy this activity. It is relaxing. These are expected to look neat. If you have any questions about this assignment or you need help understanding the schemes feel free to message me on Classroom or send an email. This part can be a little confusing. Don’t get frustrated…. Reach out and I will help you.

o View the Worm Tubes Video for tutorial on how to draw the optical illusion worm tubes.

(see packet if you do not have internet)

o Next you will color in the tubes using specific schemes. You must have at least 1 worm tube for each of the following schemes. If you have extra tubes, you can repeat a scheme. If you don’t have enough tubes you may need to do a 2nd page.

o Schemes and harmonies to include (8): Monochromatic, Complimentary, Analogous, Split- Complimentary, Triadic, Warm colors, Cool Colors, and Color wheel colors in order.

o I will need you to write on a separate sheet, or on the back NOT ON THE FRONT, a list of the schemes and harmonies required and which colors you used to represent each one.

If you enjoyed Op Art, check out the “whirls” diagram included in packet and this video! You might like to complete one or both for a HW prompt!

** This week’s work should be submitted no later than Sunday April 5. Please do so via Google Classroom if you have internet access. An assignment with this week’s dates and assignments will be created for you to do so.

This Week’s Project:

This week we will be putting our understanding of the color wheel to use. You will be creating several projects involving skills you have learned from the color wheel lesson.

• Warm/Cool Project: On a piece of cardstock/canvas/etc use a ruler to draw a grid; boxes should be 1 inch wide, just like when we drew grids for sketches a while back. Use a round object (coffee can, soup can, bowl, plate, etc) and trace a circle onto the grid, wherever you choose.

• Now decide: Choice A: the area inside the circle will be warm colors; the area outside the circle will be cool colors. Choice B: The area inside circle will be cool colors; the area outside the circle will be warm colors. See reference for a better idea of how it would look when finished.

• Once you have this complete, all squares will be colored in. Now you will draw a tree (without leaves, just trunk and limbs) silhouette ( it will be colored in solid black) onto the squares. You may wish to draw the tree into the circle (as if the circle represents the tree’s leaves) or you can make the circle appear to be the moon or sun, depending on your color scheme choices and the placement of the tree. The tree should be painted (or sharpie) black as the finishing step. I have included a picture for reference.

• If you would like to take creative liberties and draw a silhouette of something other than a tree I’m okay with that (

• Colored pencil, marker, crayon, paint, or a combination of more than one, are all suitable mediums for this project. Use whatever you have/ what you like.

** This week’s work should be submitted no later than Sunday April 12. Please do so via Google Classroom if you have internet access. An assignment with this week’s dates and assignments will be created for you to do so.

This Week’s Lesson and Classwork

This week we will be continuing our application of color wheel topics. We will be focusing on specific schemes this week. If you feel that you do not understand these schemes and how they work please contact me via email or Google Classroom.

Schemes of Focus : Monochromatic (must be color, not grayscale), Complimentary

We will create one art piece of each of the 2 color schemes listed above ( 2 art pieces total).

You may choose the subject of your art pieces……draw/paint things you LIKE!

If you have access to paint, please use paint for these projects. If you do not have paint, oil pastels is an excellent choice. If you have neither of those, use what you have. If you have internet access you can search for inspiration as you need to. You will have this week and next to complete these projects. These are expected to be high quality art pieces. Please work with the same care as you would in Class. If you have questions please reach out and I will help you.

-Again, you will create one art piece that is Monochromatic color scheme. (ie. You may use only shades of blue, or only shades of green, …..whatever color you choose…. But only 1)

-You will create 1 art piece that uses 2 colors (in different shades) that are complimentary to each other (across the wheel from each other) (i.e. violet and yellow, in different shades, along with black white, and gray if needed)

Choose your own colors to use within the schemes. You don’t need to use only my example colors . If you have questions let me know.

Remember, black, white, and gray are all allowed to be used with all color schemes.

** This week’s work should be submitted no later than Sunday April 26. Please do so via Google Classroom if you have internet access. An assignment with this week’s dates and assignments will be created for you to do so.

We would be having another Homework Check in class at this point. Please make sure you are caught up. You should have a minimum of 4 by this Friday Apr 24.

This Week’s Lesson and Classwork

This week we are finishing up our study of Color. Our scheme of focus for this week is Analogous, therefore you will need to complete an art piece using an Analogous color scheme. Also, please complete color theory quiz. You may do it in Google Classroom ( if you picked up a hard-copy packet it is also included there. )

This art piece will use 3 colors that are analogous to each other (in order side by side going around the wheel) in different shades along with black , white, and gray. Ex: blue, blue green, and green. Look at your color wheel and choose your colors. You may choose the subject of your art pieces….draw/paint things you LIKE!

Color Theory Quiz: Please complete the color theory quiz. You can feel free to use the lesson slides (NOT your friends) if you need help.
