The Health Risks of Alcohol Use: Checking for understanding project

The Dangers of Binge Drinking

Directions: Read the following passage. Then complete the activity that follows.

Binge drinking is drinking more than five alcoholic drinks in one sitting. It is dangerous and can lead to serious consequences. Binge drinking can result in alcohol poisoning and even death. Binge drinkers are also more likely to engage in other risk behaviors. All teens should be aware of the hazards associated with binge drinking.

Create a Poster/Slides Presentation (This can be done without a computer)

Create a poster/slides presentation to inform teens about binge drinking. Using information from the book Chapter 21 or information found online (reliable source) to give examples of facts and statistics that can be used on your poster.

• Plan

• Design

• Create your poster/slides

• Use the tips and questions below to help get started.

If you are savvy with graphic design tools you may make a poster in a digital format (I think you are catching on that this is distance learning and we are being flexible…do something cool/fresh/awesome!!)

Tips:

• Brainstorm the most important facts and ideas to present on your poster.

• Think about the order in which you can present information on your poster. (Remember the 5 W’s: Who, What, When, Where, How, Why)

• 3 Facts

• 3 Statistics

• 2 Risks

• Carefully outline what you want to say.

• Write a first draft, proofread, and make revisions.

• 2 school appropriate (but yes, this is health class and we are talking about alcohol) images

• Describe two ways refusal skills learned in this unit can be used to avoid a binge drinking episode or habit.
