March 11, 2020Good Afternoon,Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley remains committed to keeping our clients and employees safe and continues to closely follow developments related to Coronavirus (COVID-2019). The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has assessed the immediate health risk from COVID-2019 as low for most members of the American public. Symptoms typically include fever, cough, and shortness of breath (not sore throat and congestion which is seen with other respiratory viruses) and in more severe cases, pneumonia. We recognize that this is an evolving situation, with additional cases being verified daily, which requires us to remain vigilant and prepare to respond as necessary and appropriate. I have been in contact with the DuPage County Health Department this morning and verified that our current response is consistent with current status. On February 27th, we shared recommendations from the CDC and IDPH regarding symptoms of COVID-2019 and how to keep your family healthy. I have included this same information for your reference below but want to update you regarding our ongoing efforts. We continue to follow our established cleaning procedures including regularly cleaning and disinfecting mats and equipment between patients. These protocols were reviewed with staff during the past week. Your therapist will end your session early to accomplish a more rigorous protocol and may take short breaks during your session to be sure that protocols may be followed. Handwashing is one of the most important defenses against spread of infection. Proper hand hygiene was also reviewed with staff and you will see posters around our buildings that reinforce best practice. We require that all clients (and family members) wash hands at the start of each therapy session. If soap and water is not available, hand sanitizer is available. We have re-emphasized with our employees the best practices related to staying home when sick. If your therapist is sick, they will stay home or be sent home. If you or a family member are sick, please stay home. If your therapist comes to your home to provide services and you or a family member is sick, please cancel. If a therapist arrives at your home where a person is ill, they are required to leave immediately. We will not provide services for any client that is ill or is accompanied by a family member or caregiver that is ill. While we request as much notice as possible for cancellations, there will be no expectation for you to reschedule if you or a family member are ill during this time.Traveler Exclusions – per CDC and Health Department guidelines: anyone that has returned from the following countries is not allowed to enter our facilities for 14 days after return and we will not enter your home for the same period of time:ChinaIranSouth KoreaItalyJapanIn the event we must close for any period of time (and it is our goal to avoid this), we will follow our Emergency Closing Procedures.Your therapist will call you to cancelEmergency closing information will be posted on websiteIF, we have a valid email address and/or cell phone number for you, we will attempt to send a message from our Scheduling system.Ultimately, the goal we all share is keeping everyone healthy and so, below is advice from the CDC regarding how we may do that:The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:Avoid close contact with people who are sick.Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.Stay home when you are sick.Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.
