-9810753333115On October 15, you received the release of 2015 guideline information from the AHA Instructor Network. If you did not receive it - you do not have your current email posted and/or you did not “opt in” for information for the AHA - please go to the Instructor Network and double check your status on your IN Dashboard. For your convenience - I have provided a link to download and/or view the 2015 Guideline Highlights directly below this Newsletter in .pdf format. Please read the highlights, as it is a great resource and explanation of the changes. As you can see and read, the changes are very minimal with the smallest changes I have ever seen in the (every 5 year) updates. As I have been telling my participants - “It means we are finally getting it right, our resuscitation efforts are working?” Of course, that is our goal.I have been attempting to delay this Newsletter until the Instructor Update was released - so I could just put the update link on this Newsletter - but I can delay no longer - it should be within the week.*** How does the 2015 Guideline Release affect YOU? Read and Comprehend the Highlights (attached) Complete the Instructor Update (once released) prior to 2.15.2016 (no charge) It is unknown at this time if the Instructor Network will notify me or if you will need to forward me your certificate of completion. (I no longer have a fax - therefore, you will need to scan and email me the certificate of completion).00On October 15, you received the release of 2015 guideline information from the AHA Instructor Network. Here are some of my general observations that we can all learn from:* Know the guidelines - some of you seem to be very unsure about the initial assessment steps and the correct order - I have actually watched students correcting some of the Instructors and that is unacceptable. DO KNOW your material, that is mandatory. * Reinforce and repeat key points - ie: Depth, rate, ratios, etc… It is proven to help with retention.* Once you have put your students through all the skills - sequencing - make sure you are giving them lots (at least 5) real life scenarios to practice why they just learned - it is the best way to learn and remember.* If your students can not complete the psychomotor skills (according to the AHA Skills Testing Sheet) you DO NOT pass/certify them, no exception. * It is unrealistic that there is going to be a breathing mask next to the patient - have your students practice several scenarios doing compressions only - without a mask available.* Heartsaver AED Courses - Teach team resuscitation - one person does CPR and another retrieves that AED and uses it - switching jobs every 2 minutes. 00As you have all experienced, in order to become an AHA Instructor or to be recertified as an Instructor - one of my Training Center Faculties or I must observe you teach a portion of your course.
