Encouraging Enterprise:
All the junior classes are busy running their own ‘enterprise’ projects.
The children have researched ideas of items to make and will soon be in production! Each class has been given £25 to buy materials and they will work out costs and prices.
The profit each class makes will be given directly to the class to spend on treats or equipment that they chose. This could include wet playtime games, a film afternoon with refreshments or art and craft activities. The choice is the children’s.
The infants will be making Christmas cards to sell. Orders can be placed with the teacher. Again, the money made will remain with the classes to buy ‘extras’.
More news will follow about the items the children have made and how you can ‘order’ or buy one if you wish.
Reminders:
If you do not have a Parent Pay account, please visit the school office as we will not be accepting cash for school dinners or trips in the near future.
Our website has been revamped! It contains lots of information about the school, topics, clubs, policies and news!

Attendance
Attendance remains a Welsh Assembly priority. Schools have attendance targets which must be met. Last year, we did not meet this target of 95.2%.
We are aware that children can be ill and that, sometimes, they will be absent from school. However, there is a lot of research that shows that attendance below 95% lead to children doing less well throughout their school career. You can help to minimize the impact of non- attendance on your child by:
1) Telephoning the school on the first day of absence to let us know why they are absent
2) Doing work provided with your child if they are well enough and off school for several days e.g. broken arm/leg, operation
3) Minimising holidays during term time. These will be unauthorized unless there are exceptional circumstances

We have continued to put on a second evening performance for the Juniors as this enables more working parents to attend. Last year this was problematic because large numbers of children did not ‘turn up’ in the evening, especially if their parents were not coming to watch. I know that this is sometimes unavoidable, but please make every effort to bring your child even if you don’t have tickets. This will ensure that all the audiences have the maximum effect of the children’s wonderful singing!

Class Dojos
This is a great tool for parents to keep in touch so please sign up if you haven’t already. The app has a message facility which we do use. However, can you note the following:
1) Teachers have an average of 30 children in class so could receive 30+ messages a day- we want you to communicate with us but please be aware that not all messages will be answered. It will depend on the message you send.
2) Please do not use the messaging feature to make a complaint. It is for queries about homework, spelling, positive comments about work, explanations for absence etc. Teachers have been asked to pass any complaints to me and not to answer them via dojo messages. If you have any ‘bigger’ concerns, Mrs Bridgman and I are available each morning from 9-9.30am or at any time by appointment. Please drop in or telephone the school to speak to us.
3) Staff will only be expected to read messages between 9-3.30pm, although there are many occasions when they do answer them outside these hours. They may be on duty, teaching or in meetings so it could be a day or more before they see your message. This means there may be a delay in answering. If you have a real worry or something important to convey, please ring the office/see me or Mrs Bridgman.
