Creating a WordPress WebsiteThese instructions are to help you create a free WordPress blog. Every step can be completed without upgrading to a paid account. Go to Select “Get Started” in the upper right hand corner. Getting started steps:Select “Start with a Blog”Choose your theme.Select your nameYou can either pick the name that you want (be creative!) or enter keywords and WordPress will generate a name for you. Pick the Free planCreate your accountEnter your email addressChoose a usernameThis needs to be as close as you can get to your actual name. I need to know who is posting under that username. Choose a passwordConfirm your email address.You must confirm your email address in order to publish blog posts later!Customize your site (You can return to do this at any stage during your website creation.Select “My Site” in the upper left hand cornerScroll down to “Personalize – Themes” and select “Customize”.Click Site Title on the left hand side and create a title for your website. Select the items on the left hand menu to customize your colors, images, and fonts. When you are done customizing press “Save and Publish” on the top left hand sideNow its time to write your first blog post!Click on the “First Blog Post” that WordPress created for you and select “Edit”Rename your post. Recommended format is “Type of Issue: Topic” Ex: International Issue: North KoreaType the text of your post in the area for typing. You can customize this however you want. To add images: Put your cursor in your post wherever you want your pictures to be.Press the plus sign in a circle on the upper left hand side of the blog post editor. Select “Images”You can either upload an image or use the URL to upload. Once you have uploaded your images press “Continue” in the lower right hand corner. This will allow you to edit and arrange your images. When you are done, press “Insert” in the lower right hand corner. When you are done select “Update” in the upper right hand corner. To see your post you can select “View Post” off the green bar.To publish additional blog posts select “Write” in the upper right hand corner. Follow the same steps from #6You need a total of 3 blog posts: 1 international issue, 1 national issue, 1 local/state issue.Create your bibliography page. Click “My Site” in the upper left hand cornerScroll down to “Pages” and click on that word (do not click on Add)Click the three vertical dots next to “About” and chose the option “Edit”Change the name of the “About” page to “Bibliography”Place your MLA citations in the text of the page.Select “Update” in the upper right hand corner to post your bibliography.Return to “Pages”Select the 3 vertical dots next to “Contact”. Select “Trash” on the menu to delete the page.Once you have your 3 posts (2 images per post) and bibliography you can make any final changes and updates to your website. Make sure viewers can post comments on your blog posts. When your website is completed email the link (ex: msdobner.) to atdobner@cps.edu.
