We provide services directly to people who are homeless, or who are at risk of homelessness to support them to overcome any barriers they may face in creating a stable life for themselves in their community. Alongside our support services we have social enterprises, which provide unrestricted income for our charity as well as volunteering and training opportunities for those who use our services.We are driven by our mission to ensure everyone has the opportunity to have a home and a place in their community.About the RoleWe are looking for someone to manage our finances. Our turnover is approx. ?2.5m per year and following the excellent financial stewardship of our incumbent prior to and during the pandemic, Four Square is now in a strong place to develop and excel. We need someone who is strategic, values drive and with a great eye for detail to take that forward.The right candidate has strong values which compliment the values of Four Square and has an interest in the services we provide. They will work efficiently and be able to manage and input to multiple change programmes, taking a holistic view. They will be a decision maker and able to direct their work and the work of others towards the goals and vision of Four Square.Job PurposeTo help Four Square achieve its vision and strategy through active membership of the Management Team, and strategic leadership of our finances.Specifically to:Provide strategic financial leadership, accountability and stewardship.Lead and manage the finance team.Provide a wide range of financial analysis and information to the Four Square Leadership Team and Board of Directors.To be an active member of the Management Team and to deputise for the CEO and Deputy CEO when required.Key Responsibilities Lead and facilitate Four Square’s strategic and operational financial planning, including preparing annual budgets and forecasts; managing reserves, assets and investments; and preparing year end accounts.Devise budgets, plans and controls to support the implementation and monitoring of the Strategic Plan.Ensure timely, clear and accurate governance and management of financial reports and training to enable people to see how effectively Four Square is achieving its strategies and plans.Lead, manage, review and improve Four Square’s financial policies, processes and procedures and to ensure: their accuracy, simplicity and compliance to manage risk.Lead and manage the finance team to ensure they maintain high quality standards, and meet their objectives and targets.Support teams across Four Square to play their role in prudent financial management.Monitor and mitigate risks to the finances of Four rm and support the drafting of funding applications and tenders for the development of Four Square rm, analyse and support the development of the charity’s social enterprise.Act as Company Secretary and ensure that information required by Companies House and financial information required by OSCR is submitted accurately and on time.Other tasks to achieve the overall purpose of the job.Act as a support to the CEO and Deputy CEO in delivering all other functions of the charity and deputising for them when required.To develop key messages and lead on creating and maintaining appropriate and consistent language and terminology across all income streams.To keep up-to-date on best practice within the charity sector generally and particularly changes to communications innovation, legislation and codes of practice to do with finance and social enterprise.To work with managers to support their understanding of their budgets and their reporting requirements.To prepare reports for consideration by the Leadership Team and the Board of directors.To provide the secretariat to the Finance Committee.Person SpecificationCriteriaEssentialSkills/AbilitiesAbility to initiate change in order to make things happen and to continuously improve performance.Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present financial information to a non-technical audience.Ability to negotiate effectively with colleagues especially in formulating annual plans and budgets. Confidence and ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with the Board of Directors and the Leadership Team.Ability to act as an Ambassador for Four Square at all times.Proven ability to motivate and develop people to achieve high puter literate including the ability to set up and use spreadsheets; and familiarity with computerized accounting packages-Sage in particular.Ability to work across multiple IT systems and packages and to extract data for analysis purposes.KnowledgeDetailed knowledge of accounting and tax issues preferably as they relate to charities.Detailed knowledge of growing and developing businesses, in particular social businesses.Understanding of, and empathy with Four Square’s mission.Knowledge of the SORP is an advantage.Qualifications,Training and EducationA recognised accountancy qualification (e.g. ICAS / ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA).Evidence of continued professional development.ExperienceSignificant experience of financial management at a senior level in the voluntary sector.Strong financial and commercial acumen.Experience of the preparation of management accounts and year end accounts and of financial forecasting.Experience of putting together and managing budgets with multiple stakeholders.Experience of the successful management of people.
