Congratulations! You have a site on AnimalLingo. We’ll come back to this later and fix it up a bit (and as we work throughout the semester).Let’s go to Amazon to build a store!Go to . Scroll down to the very bottom and click on “Become an Affiliate”.This is where you can sign-up to become an Amazon affiliate and sell products from the Amazon network. You can generally earn from 4-10% (usually 4%) commission depending on the product. HOWEVER, because of University legal reasons, for this class none of us can personally make any money based on our class project. Thus we partnered with AnimalLingo in a consulting agreement. We’ll create some simple e-commerce stores for them, and any money we make during the semester will be donated back to us for a party at the end (see the syllabus). Thus, they are managing the Amazon “money” account and have given each of us access as “consultants” to their account. So the good news is that you do NOT have to create a new Amazon account… AnimalLingo already created one for you. (After you learn how to do this in class, you can go home if you want and make a personal affiliate account and sell products on your blog or Web site… it is really easy.)For now, type your AnimalLingo email address and password into the sign-in box.You will now see the Associates Center. When you are done with you assignment, come pack and explore this site a little bit to learn what options are available. Click on the “aStore” tab and then click “Add a aStore” of “build an aStore now” (sometimes it shows one, sometimes it shows the other).First, you will be asked to make a tracking id (this is so that they can track our sales). Enter the name of you animal for the tracking id and then click “Search”. It will then present you with several options for tracking ids; pick whichever one you want and continue. Start by clicking “Add a Category Page”. A category will appear on the left part of the page. Under “Subcategory title” enter a title to describe this category (“such as pig stuff” or more specifically “pig clothes”). Note you can have as many categories as you would like. Now click on “Add products” and populate your catalog. On the next page, you can search for and add products by hand (by clicking “add”). ONLY PICK PRODUCTS THAT ARE APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES! When you have added all of the products that you want, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “Back to Categories Page”You can now repeat this process for another category. Or you can move on to the next step. When you are done adding all the categories and products you want, click on “Continue” at the bottom of the page. You can also sign back into Amazon and update / add more products in the future by clicking on your “aStore”. Next you can edit the color and design of you aStore. Play around with this and make some changes. At the bottom of the page, make the following changes:Name your store (E.g., The Piggy Store).UNCLICK “show store header”Click on “Continue”On the next page, play around with the sidebar widgets and add any that you would like. This allows Amazon to suggest products to users based on their past purchases, etc. Click on “Finish and get link”. Copy and paste the link somewhere where you can access it in a few minutes. You can view your store if you would like. Back to Google sites!Go back to Google sites following the instructions (if needed) from steps 1 – 4.Click on your Web site. Click on “Edit Page”Click in the middle box. From the file menu, click “Insert”. Scroll down to the bottom and click on “More gadgets…”In the search box, type in “iframe” and click search. Click on the “iFrame” gadget. Then in the new window click “Select”.In the “Add a gadget to your page” window make the following changes:“Src”: Pastin your Amazon aStore url “Name (required)”: Make up a name (e.g., “Pig store”)The second “Height” field: 1000Unclick “Include a border around gadget”Unclick “Display title on gadget”Press OkYou now have a functional online store! Push “Save” at the top of your store. If you store doesn’t show up, it is probably an internet explorer problem. Tell internet explorer to allow both secure and unsecure content. Users visiting your site will not have this problem. You will only have this problem when you are editing it. This is all that you need to do for today. If you have extra time and would like to improve the look of your site, you can play with the appearance options:Click on “more options” -> “manage site”.On the left side bar, you can play with the appearance options by clicking on any link under “Site appearance”.
