WORK PREFERENCE GUIDE
MOSTLY ‘A’ ANSWERS
You are strongly goal orientated. You like to be challenged with a range of opportunities and enjoy seeing results. You can get bored with routine tasks and like to have a range of duties that make full use of your skills.
MOSTLY ‘B’ ANSWERS
You are strongly people orientated. You enjoy working with people in a team and/or working with customers face-to-face. You do not like jobs that require working alone for long periods of time.
MOSTLY ‘C’ ANSWERS
You are a self-starter – independence is your most important work value. You can be either goal or people orientated but are at your best when given freedom and independence to do your work. You are de-motivated by micromanagement.
MOSTLY ‘D’ ANSWERS
You are at your happiest when working in an orderly work routine. You like to know your roles and responsibilities and do not like change or stressful roles. You are an essential member of your team when it comes to getting the job done but might find leadership roles particularly difficult.
A COMBINATION OF ANSWERS
You may have two strong work values that are essential for your workplace motivation and satisfaction. For example, leaders are often a combination of A and B answers. Somebody who is at their happiest working on their own for most of the day in a technical job may also prefer to be given a lot of independence and could be a combination of ‘A” and ‘C’ answers.
You could argue that all four work preferences can come into play at some time in your work life but there are usually one or two main motivators to work happiness that dominate over all others. With this in mind, try to go for jobs that you are happy and motivated to do as you will often spend more time at work than at home during your working weekdays.
