BIBLE DISCUSSION GROUP STUDY QUESTIONS

BIBLE DISCUSSION GROUP STUDY QUESTIONSIn preparation for Sunday, March 1, 2020 Passage: Hebrews 2:10-13Memory Passage: Hebrews 2:10-11DAY 1 – ASK FOR INSIGHTREAD THE PASSAGERead Heb. 2:10-13. Summarize what you learned from your study last week of Hebrews 2:5-9. How does the “For” beginning v. 10 prepare you for what follows? To whom does “he” refer in v. 10? What is the main idea found in v. 10, and in what way is this “fitting?” DAY 2 – ASK FOR INSIGHTREAD THE PASSAGERead Heb. 2:10-13. Who are the “many sons” and how were they brought to glory? The Greek word translated “founder” (ESV, “pioneer” in NIV, “author” in NASB, “source” in CSV) is a compound word made up of two words meaning “first” and “lead.” It is found 4 times in the NT: twice in Hebrews (here and 12:2) and twice in Acts (3:15 & 5:31, translated “author” and “leader” respectively in ESV). The translation “pioneer” or “trailblazer” might best convey what is meant in this passage: in what ways is Jesus the “pioneer” or “trailblazer” of the salvation of the sons?To what type of “suffering” does our author refer? How was Jesus “made perfect” through this suffering? Was He lacking in some area? Explain your answer. DAY 3 – ASK FOR INSIGHTREAD THE PASSAGE Read Heb. 2:10-13. What is v. 11’s relationship to v. 10 (notice the “For” with which the verse begins)?“All have one source” (NASB & CSB = “Father”) is lit. “all from/out of one.” Assuming the “one” refers to God the Father, in what ways do Jesus (i.e. “he who sanctifies”) and believers (i.e. “those who are sanctified”) have one source/Father?How does this fact enable (“That is why” in v. 11) Jesus to call His people brothers without shame? In what primary way (examine the context of 10-18!) does Jesus identify with His people as brother?DAY 4 – ASK FOR INSIGHTREAD THE PASSAGERead Ps. 22 & Heb 2:10-13. How does the NT’s use of Psalm 22 prepare you for our author’s quote of Ps. 22:22 (cf. Ps.22:1/Matt. 27:46; Ps. 22:7/Matt. 27:39; Ps. 22:8/Matt. 27:43; Ps. 22:18/Matt. 27:35)? As you read Psalm 22, what happens with David’s tone beginning in v. 22? Why is this important in Hebrews 2:12?In v. 13 our author quotes Isaiah 8:17-18. In the original context, what children are referred to and why? To which children is our author referring in Hebrews 2:13?What significance is there in Jesus saying “I will put my trust in (God)” in Hebrews 2:13? DAY 5 – ASK FOR INSIGHTREAD THE PASSAGE Read Heb. 2:10-13. In what ways does your sanctification (v. 11) prepare you for glory (v. 10), and why is it important for you to be growing in your sanctification? Write down everything that is said about Jesus in 2:10-13. How does each of these truths strengthen you in your walk? Write down everything said about believers in 2:10-13. How does each of these truths encourage you in your walk?Meditate on the idea of Jesus being the Pioneer of your salvation. Write down all the ways you benefit from this fact in your daily life as you participate in your sanctification.DATE: March 1, 2020PASSAGE: Hebrews 2:10-13The Pioneer of Our Salvation ................
