Tasks:
• Identify industry sector(s) and career pathways that best align to your SLC and the current course offerings at the site.
• Develop a possible CTE scope and sequence using the three course levels of CTE.
• Identify existing electives that support and determine course needs to complete the three levels of your CTE sequence. (Using the CL17 and the UC A-G approved course list)

The Career Academy Model
The Career Academy is an instructional model that themes and integrates academic and career content in order to contextualize learning and to prepare students for college and careers.
The thirteen primary components that make an effective career academy are:
• School within-a-school
• Students self-select
• Teachers plan as a team; common planning periods
• Usually grades 10-12
• Integrated curriculum – academic content taught w/career focus
• Dedicated counselor
• Typically 3 academic/1 CTE class in 10th and 11th; 1 CTE & 1 additional career 12th
• Business partnership/advisory council
• Mentoring in classroom and job sites
• Internships in grades 11 or 12
• Parents actively involved in academy
• Assistance with college or job placement
