Starting October 3 we will return to worship in our
sanctuary. Online worship will continue as well.
We give thanks that Hamline Church is a highly

as we take steps to continue to protect the health
and safety of our community, especially our children
under 12 who can not yet receive the vaccine.
Please observe the following COVID precautions:
masks required, stay home if you¡¯re sick, wash hands
or sanitize frequently, practice physical distancing in
the sanctuary, worship leaders will be masked with
the exception of song leaders and speakers when

beginning of worship and communion will be taken
from the pews.
Children¡¯s activities will continue outside during
October (as long as the weather lets us!) Childcare
is available for 3 and under with our vaccinated
childcare staff on the playground beginning at
9:45am! Prek-6th graders are invited to join their

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
Rev. Mariah Furness Tollgaard
THE LORD¡¯S PRAYER
HYMN 480
O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go
1. O Love that wilt not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the life I owe,
that in thine ocean depths
its flow may richer, fuller be.
3. O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow thru the rain,
and feel the promise is not vain,
that morn shall tearless be.
2. O Light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to thee;
my heart restores its borrowed ray,
that in thy sunshine¡¯s blaze
its day may brighter, fairer be.
SCRIPTURE READING
God, you¡¯re my last chance of the day.
I spend the night on my knees before you.
Put me on your salvation agenda;
take notes on the trouble I¡¯m in.
I¡¯ve had my fill of trouble;
I¡¯m camped on the edge of hell.
For as long as I remember I¡¯ve been hurting;
I¡¯ve taken the worst you can hand out, and I¡¯ve had it.
Your wildfire anger has blazed through my life;
I¡¯m bleeding, black-and-blue.
You made lover and neighbor alike dump me;
the only friend I have left is Darkness.
The word of God for the people of God.
Thanks be to God.

WELCOME & RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS
Psalm 88: 1-18 selections (CEB)
Shirley Wright
I¡¯m written off as a lost cause,
one more statistic, a hopeless case.
Abandoned as already dead,
one more body in a stack of corpses,
And not so much as a gravestone¡ª
I¡¯m a black hole in oblivion.
You¡¯ve dropped me into a bottomless pit,
sunk me in a pitch-black abyss.
I¡¯m caught in a maze and can¡¯t find my way out,
blinded by tears of pain and frustration.
I call to you, God; all day I call.
I wring my hands, I plead for help.
Are the dead a live audience for your miracles?
Do ghosts ever join the choirs that praise you?
Does your love make any difference in a graveyard?
Is your faithful presence noticed in the corridors of sheol?
Are your marvelous wonders ever seen in the dark,
your righteous ways noticed in the Land of No Memory?
I¡¯m standing my ground, God, shouting for help,
at my prayers every morning, on my knees each daybreak.
Why, God, do you turn a deaf ear?
Why do you make yourself scarce?
