Government Current Events (60 points)

1. A current event (worth 15 points) will be due every week, on the last day that we meet that week. You must do the Current Events assignment on this form. You do not need to do the sections in order, but you do need to do them all. You may use articles from newspapers, news magazines such as Newsweek, and/or from reliable Internet source. Your current event write-ups must be written in complete sentences.

2. Make sure that Section I pertains to a function of the United States federal (national) government, that Section II pertains to California state government, that Section III deals with our local government and that Section IV deals with an important world event to receive credit.

3. Identify the branch of government, Judicial, Legislative, or Executive to which your article pertains. By the time you fill out the packet you should have one current event that deals with each branch of government (as well as each level of government). Check the chart below if unsure about branches and levels of government (sometimes an event involves more than one branch).

4. You will be graded on the depth of your understanding of the event, your ability to follow instructions, and most importantly your ability to apply past learning and knowledge from this course and/or others to analyze the significance of the event. Each article must be stapled to the back of this packet to receive credit.
