JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Caretaker - Tairāwhiti

JOB PURPOSE: To undertake activities in the areas of minor equipment maintenance, caretaking, fleet vehicles and cleaning.

NATURE OF POSITION: Permanent Part-time (18.75 hours per week) for Caretaker role with additional hours for grounds maintenance as required.

APPOINTMENT Allied Salary Grade 1

SALARY RANGE

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE: EIT Allied Staff Collective Employment Agreement or EIT Allied Staff Individual Employment Agreement.

LOCATION: Tairāwhiti - Campus

RESPONSIBLE TO: Tairāwhiti Campus Manager

General

KEY TASKS

Cleanliness of Vehicle Fleet

– Maintain a schedule to ensure all EIT Vehicles are cleaned and groomed on a regular basis

– Check and report on vehicles general condition on a regular basis

– Ensure all vehicles carry a first aid kit and the kits are stocked as required

Cleaning of Designated Staffrooms

– Ensure staff tea, coffee, sugar is restocked

– Ensure coffee machines are cleaned and restocked as required

– Manage the stock ordering of all staffroom supplies

– Replace and launder dirty tea towels at least 3 times a week or as required

– Ensure designated staffrooms are clean and tidy and dishwashers are activated

Maintenance of Air Conditioning Units

– Ensure all air-conditioning filters are cleaned on a regular basis

Facilities Operations

– Deliver parcels/paper to campus areas as required.

– Assist with moving furniture when required.

– Deliver vehicles for maintenance and servicing.

– Assist other members of the Facilities Team when required

Tairāwhiti Campus Grounds Maintenance

During peak periods assist in maintaining the grounds at EIT’s Palmerston Road Campus and the Stout Street Rural Studies Unit to an agreed standard as required.

Customer Services

– Promote EIT and Corporate Services in a positive manner

– Action work requests in a timely fashion to agreed quality standards

Health and Safety

– Carry out duties with due regard to the health and safety of EIT Tairāwhiti community e.g. staff, students, children, contractors and visitors

– Take all required safety precautions when using cleaning equipment and chemicals

– Promote a safe work environment through compliance with EIT Health and Safety policy and procedures

General

– Operate Institute policies and procedures as appropriate and ensure that all activities reflect the philosophy and procedures of the Institutes QMS

– Promote a safe work environment through compliance with the Institute’s Health & Safety policies and procedures

– Be available after-hours or during weekends for any facility/vehicle issues or emergency issues that may arise

– Attend faculty meetings and other institute meetings as appropriate

– Develop positive and constructive working relationships with colleagues across all campuses

– Assist with preparation for graduations and other events as required

– Review own job description annually with Manager and work through coaching and appraisal process

– Attend relevant courses to update skills where required

– Undertake other duties as may be required by the Campus Manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION

POSITION: Caretaker

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Demonstrated background in general basic maintenance

• Knowledge to carry out routine cleaning of vehicle fleet

• Knowledge to carry out cleaning of coffee machines and work with chemicals

• Knowledge to carry out routine horticultural maintenance and tasks using a range of machinery and hand tools

• Basic mechanical knowledge to service and maintain grounds equipment
