GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs responsible duties involving secretarial and financial account keeping tasks; will report to and be supervised by the Highway Department Office Manager/Accountant.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE POSITION: The work of the Account Clerk II involves financial account and record keeping, computer data entry, preparation of financial documents, reports, receptionist and clerical duties and related tasks. Many of the duties and situations are recurring in nature, but the individual is expected to exercise discretion, judgment and resourcefulness in dealing with unusual circumstances.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES PERFORMED: (Illustrative only)

• Functions as receptionist, answering phones, routing calls, greeting visitors, etc.;

• Performs a variety of clerical, accounting, record keeping and related tasks;

• May assist with vouchers, receipts, data entry and requisitions;

• Prepares correspondences, records and reports and may take minutes at Highway Committee meetings;

• May assist with payroll processing;

• Operates various office machines and equipment including computer;

• Demonstrates professional, courteous customer service to clients and other staff, consistent with County Core Values;

• Performs related tasks as required.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGES SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of double entry accounting procedures; knowledge of modern office terminology and techniques used in keeping fiscal records; good knowledge of business math and business English; ability to work effectively with the public; ability to maintain complex records and analyze and make recommendations from complex financial data; ability to interpret and make decisions in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures; skill in operation of various office equipment including computers; ability to type 45 wpm; and the ability to work effectively with other employees, professional staff, county officials and the general public with courtesy and good judgment.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIRED: A two year vocational or associate degree in accounting or related field followed by two years of relevant experience which provides the essential knowledge, skills and abilities.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Telephone systems; mainframe computer terminal; personal computer including word processing software; copy machine; postage machine; fax machine; calculator.
