Course Objectives/Competencies: Students will be able to…Study Spanish speaking countries, and the origins and history of the Spanish language.Study the culture and customs of Spanish-speaking countries.Use numbers for telling times and dates, counting, making purchases. Learn greetings, introductions, weather, and vocabulary.Study useful vocabulary for shopping, colors, family members, foods, classroom and household objects.Learn verb conjugation rules for speaking in the present tenses.Practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing,?in Spanish.Course Description:This is a beginning course with a four-point emphasis: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Basic grammar, basic vocabulary and comprehension are the skills emphasized. Included is an introduction to the Hispanic culture and the geography of the Hispanic world. Grading System: Grades will be determined by student's performance on daily participation in class and classroom assignments turned in on time (Blackboard assignments, lined paperwork, notebook notes, tests, quizzes, and projects). Assignments will be posted in Blackboard daily. Assignments are due daily. Blackboard assignments will be open for two weeks after deadline. During that period student can still turn in written assignments, but with a discount in points. Grades will be updated. Our class is built with time for students to finish assignments in class. Quarterly projects will be done in class and at home.? There is Spanish support every day after school for half hour. How to access missed work after an absence:Go to Blackboard, open the assignment you missed. Check the message for absent students, at the very top of daily assignment. Do 1 and 2 to get full credit. It is important that you comply with missed assignments (assignment missed due to absences in classroom) ASAP. A zero will be posted for missing assignment. If parents decline, accommodation for student will be given accordingly. It will not affect his/her grade. Expectations:Be ready: Be in class ready to work with your materials before the tardy bell rings. ?Your cellular, earbuds and/or headphones are put away. ?Your computer/laptop is charged, and on your desk. ?You have used the restroom before entering the class.? ?Be respectful:Be attentive to the speaker whether is the teacher giving a lesson, or student/students giving a presentation.? Keep the area around your desk clean. The class has trash cans and a recycling bin.Only water is allowed in the classroom. ?Keep your gum packs in your backpack.
