H.R. No. 894

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Ray L. Hunt, noted businessman, humanitarian, and Dallas civic leader, has been chosen to receive the 2007 Linz Award; and

WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is awarded annually to a Dallas County resident whose civic or humanitarian efforts, performed without monetary compensation, have created the greatest benefit to the community; and

WHEREAS, The CEO of Hunt Consolidated Inc. and Hunt Oil Co., Mr. Hunt has amassed years of service to various organizations and efforts, all of which have benefited from his outstanding leadership; as chairman of Dallas Medical Resource, he works to provide and improve health care for the indigent population in Dallas and has sought to secure federal funding for Parkland Memorial Hospital and promote the city as a medical hub; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hunt has also given generously of his time and expertise as a member and former chairman of the Dallas Citizens Council, North Texas Commission, and Central Dallas Association; a graduate of Southern Methodist University, he has served his alma mater as chairman of its board of trustees and is on the committee responsible for developing SMU's proposal for the George W. Bush Presidential Library; in addition, he has been an ardent supporter of the Austin Street Centre, Genesis Women's Shelter, and UT Southwestern Medical Center and served on the boards of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Southwestern Medical Foundation, and the American Petroleum Institute; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hunt has expressed his dedication to the welfare of others in lasting and meaningful ways; he sets an example of leadership and civic engagement to which others may aspire, and he truly merits special commendation for his years of service in behalf of the citizens of Dallas and the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Ray L. Hunt on his receipt of the 2007 Linz Award and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Hunt as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
