DRESS CODE – OPEN BIBLE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY – 20012/2013

Students are expected to comply with the dress code. Uniforms can be purchased from Flynn and O’Hara, 923 Taylor Ave., Towson, MD (410-828-4709). The web site is or call 1-800-441-4122 to place orders by phone. You may choose an alternate uniform supplier; however, the style and color must match that of Flynn and O’Hara. When purchasing from department stores such as J.C. Penney, Sears, and Wal-Mart, purchase in the “Uniforms” department. When parents purchase items other than those from Flynn and O’Hara the school reserves the right of approval. Non-compliance with the standardized uniform look could result in disciplinary action.

General Rules for All Students

1. All hemlines must be at the top of the knee.

2. All shirts may have only the top button unbuttoned; shirttails will be tucked in at all times.

3. All clothing must be clean, in good repair, and fit properly.

4. Jewelry –

a) Only 1 pair of small post or clip earrings is allowed for girls, (one per ear).

b) No earrings allowed for boys.

c) No jewelry may be worn in other pierced body parts.

d) No body art or tattoos.

e) The Administration reserves the right to ask a student to remove any jewelry that it felt not appropriate.

5. No sandals, platforms, chunky heels, mules, or roller shoes.

6. Hats may be worn to school but not in buildings or in class.

7. Hair -

a) Must be neat and well groomed and out of the eyes.

b) No unusual cuts or styles.

c) No unnatural colored hair.

d) The length of boy’s hair must not be more than half covering the ears and may not touch the collar.

8. Fingernail polish should be in a natural color and should enhance a ladylike appearance.

9. Make-up for high school girls must be modest and discreet. No make-up in lower or middle school.

10. Turtlenecks, polo shirts, blouses, white dress shirts (if not purchased from uniform company) must be generic; i.e. no lace ruffles on blouses, no extra styling, no logos. Sweaters must be solid navy blue, button-down cardigans. (Pink and white sweaters are cute on little girls, but are not for school.)

11. All blouses and shirts must be heavy enough that underwear does not show through.

12. High school boys – no facial hair (no mustaches, beards, goatees, or long side burns).

Lower School 1st – 5th grade

Girls:

Jumper: School plaid tunic or V-neck solid navy blue (at the top of the knee)

NOTE: Girls in Grade Five may wear a jumper or a middle school kilt.

Skorts: Solid navy or khaki skirt with built-in shorts

Pants: Traditional solid navy blue or Khaki with or without belt loops (Monday & Tuesday no pants)

(If pants have belt loops, a belt must be worn)

Blouse: Solid white with Peter Pan collar; short or long sleeves

Polo Shirt: Solid white, short or long sleeves, Blue OBCA polo

Turtleneck: Solid white or blue

(No mock turtlenecks, no ribbed material, plain material only.)

NOTE: All shirttails must be tucked completely in skirts, in skorts, in shorts, or sweatpants.

Sweater: Traditional navy blue crew neck, button-down cardigan

(Sweaters or OBCA sweatshirts may be worn in classrooms for warmth – NO HOODIES!) (You may not wear jackets, coats, fleece, or regular sweatshirts in the classroom.)

Shorts: Traditional solid navy blue or khaki, walking, with or without belt loops

(If the shorts have belt loops, a belt must be worn)

(Must be no more than 3 inches above the knee)

NOTE: Shorts may not be worn between November 1st and April 1st.

Sweatpants: Navy blue; to be worn on PE DAYS ONLY instead of the jumper.

Socks: Solid navy blue or solid white; ankle socks, knee-highs, or tights;

Leggings may be worn on extremely cold days

Shoes: Standard dress, casual, or tennis shoes (no platforms, chunky heels, mules, or roller shoes)

Boys

Shirts: Solid white dress shirt, with plain collar; short or long sleeves

Turtleneck: Solid white or solid blue

(No mock turtlenecks, no ribbed material, plain material only)

Polo Shirt: Solid white; short or long sleeves, Blue OBCA polo

NOTE: All shirttails must be completely tucked in pants, in shorts, or in sweatpants.

Pants: Traditional solid navy blue or Khaki with or without belt loops

(If pants have belt loops, a belt must be worn)

(No cargo pants, no oversize pockets, etc.)

Sweatpants: Navy blue; to be worn on PE DAYS ONLY instead of pants.

Middle School (Grades 6-8)

Girls

Shirt: Solid white, oxford, button-down collar; short or long sleeves

Turtleneck: Solid white or solid blue

(No mock turtlenecks, no ribbed material, plain material only)

Polo Shirt: Solid white; short or long sleeves, white or blue OBCA polo (red & yellow colors will be phased out during the 2008-2009 school year – students may wear these colors if already purchased)

NOTE: All Shirttails must be completely tucked in.

Skirts: Solid navy or plaid kilt

(Hemline must be below the knee)

Pants: Traditional solid navy blue or khaki, flat or pleated with belt loops,

properly fitted – no jeans or corduroy

(Must be worn with black or brown belt in belt loops)

NOTE: Pants may not be worn on Mondays & Tuesdays, and other designated days.

Belt: Black or brown belt, must be worn in belt loops of pants; not to extendout of loops.

Sweaters: Traditional navy crew neck or V-neck, button-down cardigan

(Sweaters or OBCA sweatshirts may be worn in classrooms for warmth)

(You may not wear jackets, coats, fleece, or regular sweatshirts in the classroom)

Shirt: Solid white or dark blue, oxford, button-down collar; short or long sleeve (only the top button will be unbuttoned)

NOTE: All shirttails must be completely tucked in.

Skirt: Solid light gray or gray w/red plaid kilt

(Hemlines must be at the knee.)

Pants: Traditional light gray or khaki dress pants; flat or pleated, properly fitted

(Pants must be worn with a black or brown belt.)

NOTE: Pants may not be worn on Mondays & Tuesdays, or other designated days.

Belt: Black or brown belt; worn in belt loops and not to extend out of the loops

Sweater: Solid navy V-neck, crew neck, or athletic button-down cardigan

Nylons: Neutral or white hose

Socks: Solid white (ankle or above) socks; solid white, navy, or gray knee-highs

Shoes: Solid black or brown flats; tie-ups; loafers; or mid-heel pumps

(No sandals, canvas, platforms, chunky heels, roller shoes, or mules.)

Boys:

Shirts: Solid white or blue oxford, button-down collar; short or long sleeves with tie of choice

NOTE: Shirts will be buttoned up and worn with tie and all shirttails will be completely tucked in.

Pants: Traditional light gray or khaki dress pants; flat or pleated, properly fitted

(Worn with a black or brown belt)

Belt: Black or brown, worn in belt loops and not to extend out of the loops

Sweater: Solid navy V-neck, crew neck, or athletic button-down cardigan

Socks: Solid black, brown, or navy above ankle socks

Shoes: Black or brown dress shoes; no sports shoes, no combat boots, no Doc Martens,

no roller shoes, etc.; soles to be no more than ½”

Tie: Ties must be properly adjusted when worn

NOTE: Ties must be worn Monday-Thursday

PE Classes Dress Code

Grades 1-4 (Girls and Boys)

1. Tennis shoes

2. Regular uniform shorts (until November 1 and after April 1) and polo shirts

3. Navy blue sweatpants (from November 1 until April 1) and polo shorts

(*Sweatpants are allowed only on PE days.)

Grades 1-12 (Girls and Boys)

1. Tennis shoes

2. Open Bible logo T-shirt and shorts (The gym uniforms will be available in the school store after orders are taken during orientation night and during the first month of the school year. There will be a limited quantity for sale. In the interim, students are to wear modest blue shorts {mid thigh to the knee} and plain T- shirt

3. A mesh bag with name tag to hold clothing must be used

4. Sweatpants may be worn over gym shorts when chilly outside and classes are held outside

Casual Dress Days/After School Activities

The code for each day Casual Dress Day will be announced in advance. Students are expected to dress in a way that reflects the school standards both on Casual Dress Days and After School Activities. When in doubt, check first.

NEVER ALLOWED IS: spandex, tight fitting, bare midriff, low cut, spaghetti straps on tops; skirts above the knees; shorts in middle and high school; shorts in grades K5-5 that are shorter than mid-thigh; printing or design not reflecting our Christian standards; no jeans on Dress Days, no baggy, oversized pants, no torn or stained pants.

Field Trips

Blue OBCA shirt or sweatshirt unless otherwise stated.
