|Job Summary: Under general direction from the Chief of the Medi-Cal Base Estimates Section, the Research Data Analyst II (RDA II) assists in the development and |
|support of the estimated caseload and expenditures for the Medi-Cal Program. The incumbent must display an independent working knowledge of various statisical methods |
|and applications, including regression analysis. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required. |
|Supervision Received: General supervision from the Chief of the Medi-Cal Base Estimates Section: a Staff Services Manager II. |

|Description of Duties: The incumbent is expected to have good quantitative capabilities and work in a team setting with minimal guidance and direction from the Staff |
|Services Manager II. The RDA II is expected to be familiar with statistical and forecasting techniques, and applicable software. Currently, the Base Estimates Branch |
|completes over 4,300 regressions annually for the Medi-Cal Local Assistance Estimates. |
Essential Functions
40% Work both independently and as part of a professional team to generate the Medi-Cal Local Assistance Eligible Estimate. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Estimate Medi-Cal Statewide and Managed Care beneficiaries,
• Analyze information and data to derive research conclusions and recommendations,
• Identify demographic, economic, or other relevant variables for inclusion in the estimates,
• Insure the integrity of forecasting procedures.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Medi-Cal estimating system and methodology.
40% Work both independently and as part of a professional team to generate the Medi-Cal Local Assistance Fee-For-Service Estimate. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Estimate Medi-Cal Fee-For-Service expenditures
• Analyze information and data to derive research conclusions and recommendations,
• Identify demographic, economic, or other relevant variables for inclusion in the estimates,
• Insure the integrity of forecasting procedures,
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Medi-Cal estimating system and methodology.
20% Assist in other assignment areas. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Develop, summarize, and maintain datasets using various software tools including SAS and Business Objects to meet the Branch’s data research needs,
• Develop, organize, and maintain documentation and reference materials,
• Develop/maintain/update data sources and pivot tables for estimate research.
5% Other duties as assigned.
