There is a lot of good, sound financial advice in this book. It's the same good, sound financial advice that financial advisers have been repeating for decades. Ramsey just packages it in an appealing way, and if you pony up for the full Financial Peace University class, you get access to a lot of useful financial tools.I took an FPU class with some hesitation. I had already taken a Christian-focused personal finance class several years ago, from a well-known and long respected author. I also led a class at my church. The principles I learned there were life-changing.So I wasn't sure if Dave Ramsey could really teach me anything new. And truthfully, there is nothing new in Ramsey's materials. To his credit, at the end of this book Ramsey admits what he teaches are time-tested financial principles and nothing that he has made up himself (which is comforting to know, actually, and also I gained a lot respect for him because he admitted it). He just packages it a new way, and in the DVD series that accompanies FPU, Ramsey is a dynamic and entertaining speaker (not like the author I previously mentioned). This book mirrors the content of the DVD series that is part of the FPU package.But I did re-learn some things that I wasn't doing and learned

some new things. Honestly, we weren't deep in debt. We're very conservative financially and we avoid the American consumerism rat race. So entering this class, we used credit cards but never carried a balance, the only debt we carry is our mortgage, and we were able to pay for our daughter's college educations without borrowing a cent.
