Autobiographical Research Project 2014

Autobiographical Research Project 2014

What happened the day / week that you were born? What was going on locally, nationally, and internationally? For this project, you will research what was occurring politically, socially, and economically in our world on the day / week you were born.

To discover what occurred on that very special day that you were born, you will not only interview family members, but you will also research for details and events on the Internet and through our library databases. Once you have accumulated information, you will develop a thesis statement and make a claim about our nation on the day that you were born, supporting your claim with evidence from your interviews and research.

Procedure:

• Set up a Noodletools Account to pose questions, develop a thesis statement, record researched material, paraphrase and summarize, add your own ideas, create your formal outline, construct a Works Cited Page, and write your paper – all in one place.

• Interview your family and other adults about your birth and first year of life. Before your interviews, brainstorm a list of questions to ask.

• Consult periodicals such as Time, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report for the month and year that you were born. As you conduct your research, you can search for commercials, slogans, births, deaths, sports news, movies, books, plays, music, financial, national, and international news, as well as religious events.

• Search for your birth date on the Internet using the sites listed below. Many of these sites give information for your birth date throughout history. To find more details for the month and year you were born, search your birth date and the days following your birth date for one month and choose only those events that occurred in your birth year.
