This flight tax is expected to yield EUR 200 million to improve the sustainability of aviation. Tour operators, Schiphol airport and KLM have pointed to the flight tax of 2008, which brought great financial damage to the travel industry as passengers opted to use foreign airports instead.1)What is the Commission’s view on the Dutch government’s efforts to introduce an EU tax on aviation?2)Does the Commission consider that the revenue from such an EU tax should go to Member States’ treasuries or to the EU budget?3)Is a European flight tax a first step in the direction of an EU tax system, and will the EU (e.g. on the grounds of Article 114 TFEU) thereby be in a position to also levy other taxes? ................
