Dell Command | Update

Dell Command | Update is a one-to-one standalone utility that enables a simplified process to manage updates for Dell client systems. With Dell Command | Update, devices can stay-up-to-date and secure with the latest drivers, BIOS, firmware, and applications. Dell Command | Update provides: An easy-to-use UI, which helps to identify, apply, and schedule the required updates for client systems. Dell Command | Update provides the following features and enhancements in this release: Improved the defer updates workflow during conference calls. Enhanced the telemetry event logging mechanism Enhanced the administrative template feature to configure recurrence patterns.. Dell Command | Update provides the following features and enhancements in this release: Enhanced security measures on restricting the use of .xml custom catalogs by nonadmin users and allowing only the Dell

signed .cab files. Enhanced security measures on validating the input parameters of internal functions. Improved the system information user interface to display the correct driver versions. Improved automatic updates for monthly schedules for Week & Day of month configuration.

NOTE: During the upgrade of Dell Command | Update 4.9, the usage of .xml custom catalogs must have an additional Allow catalog XML files checkbox that is enabled for scan and apply operations.

Added capability to reoffer failed BIOS update due to missing or incorrect BIOS password. Added security checks for file downloads. Enhanced security measures.

NOTE: Dell Command | Update Classic interface does not support custom notifications.

Dell Command | Update provides the following features and enhancements in this release: Added support to provide updates for Camera subsystem. Added capability to pause Dell Command | Update activity when there is a Windows Update running. Scheduled reboot time is configured to five minutes for manual updates that require reboot when reboot consent check box

is set. Enhanced file handling security measures. Added capability to schedule daily updates at selected time of the day. Added capability to schedule monthly updates on selected week and day of the month. Added support to disable notifications. Added capability to display Update Events, Penetration Rate, and Non-Compliance List through CIM provider class. Added capability to reattempt failed updates after system reboot. Improved defer updates capability with options to defer installation up to ninety-nine hours. Added support to defer system restart from one to ninety-nine hours after installations requiring reboot. InvColPC.exe is not bundled with Dell Command | Update package as a security enhancement.

NOTE: During the update process, catalogs that were configured in previous versions must be reconfigured once upgraded to version 4.6.

NOTE: Dell Command | Update must be launched as administrator (elevated) to perform any setting modification.

NOTE: User must provide the nodes of from CatalogIndexPC.xml as local path of the InvColPC.exe in Custom Catalog.

Install, uninstall, and upgrade Dell Command | Update

Install Dell Command | Update for Universal Windows Platform (UWP)

1. Open the .exe file that is downloaded from the Dell support site. 2. Click Install.

NOTE: You must have administrative rights to install Dell Command | Update. 3. On the Welcome screen, click Next. 4. On the License Agreement screen, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next. 5. On the Begin Install screen, click Install. 6. During the installation, you have the option to participate in the Dell Command | Update Improvement Program:

If you like to participate, select Yes, I want to participate in the program. NOTE: For more information about Privacy Statement regarding Customer and Online User Information, see Dell Privacy Statement.

If you do not like to participate, select No, I would not like to participate in the program. 7. Click Install on the Ready to Install the Program screen. 8. On the Installation Wizard Completed screen, click Finish.

Silent install

Upgrade Dell Command | Update

You can upgrade Dell Command | Update in the following ways:

Manual update--Download and install Dell Command | Update 4.8 from support. For information about the installation procedure, see Install Dell Command | Update.

When the new version is installed, the installer prompts for an upgrade. Select Yes to continue the upgrade.

Upgrades are supported as follows: You can upgrade Dell Command | Update for Windows 10 (Universal Windows Platform) from version 3.0 or later to

version 4.8. Self-update--If the application is already installed, launch the application and click the CHECK button on the Welcome

screen to check for updates. If newer versions of Dell Command | Update are available the latest version of Dell Command | Update is listed under Recommended updates. Select the update, and install the newer version of the application.

NOTE: During the upgrade, application settings are retained.

NOTE: If any Dell application upgrades the Dell Client Management service to version 2.7 when Dell Command | Update client version is older than 4.6, then: Defer updates functionality does not operate as per the design of version 4.5. Automatic reboot setting chosen by the user is not applicable and has a default reboot time of 5 minutes.
