VII- Density, Specific Gravity & Specific Volume: A. Density: is defined as the mass of a substance per unit volume of the substance. Thus Density (D) = Mass (M) / Volume (V), D = M / V. Water weighs 10 gm for each 10 ml, thus the density of water = 10/10 = 1. For conc. H2SO4, 10 ml weigh 18 gm, thus the density of conc. H2SO4 is 18/10 = 1.8 ................
