THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE EMERSON RECREATION COMMISSION WAS HELD ON MAY 18, 2017 AT 7:30 P.M. IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM OF THE RECREATION CENTER. Open Session: Call to OrderPresiding Officer Dave Rector called the Regular Meeting of the Recreation Commission to order at 7:30 p.m. Roll Call: Presiding Officer Dave Rector, Afrim Hoxha, David Cannici, Steve Carmosino, Anthony Gismondi, Mike Graham, Willie Ortiz and Paul CoombesExcused Absences: Bob Quinones ISummer Kick-Off – Complete Update, All FacetsPresiding Officer Dave Rector discussed having a meeting with the borough officialsregarding the Summer Kick-Off event.The presiding officer noted that the Recreation Commission did not have a definitiveanswer regarding the resident who objected to the fireworks event. A Commissionmember responded that the Borough Administrator was in contact with the resident,and that he is okay with the location of the fireworks. Summer Kick-Off Fundraising Update – allDonations were not received from Valero, or Paramus Ford.Dinardi Landscaping has committed to $250.00.Parkway Toyota contributed to $250.00.PFA has donated $250.00.Wireless World has donated $50.00.Cutz and Stylz has not donated as of this date.Kuiken Brothers has not contributed.Charles Shaw’s two clients are committed to donating $500.00 each.Dunkin Donuts, Cablevision and Suez Water have not contributed.Emerson Democratic Club donated $250.00.Emerson Hotel donated $250.00.Starbucks donated $500.00, and would like a table for handouts and refreshments.Cinar Turkish Restaurant donated $250.00 .Golden Bagels has not donated as of this date.Emerson Dental refused to contribute.The Glass Slipper Dance Studio is unable to donate.Dollar Plus has not responded to donating yet.Pimaan Thai Restaurant donated a $50.00 gift card.Pascack Valley Medical Center contributed $500.00.Paino Roofing did not donate.Emerson Junior Baseball League has not contributed yet.Chris Knoller has not contributed yet.Emerson Fence donated $250.00.Short Rounds has not contributed.PNC Bank has not donated.Kessler Institute has not donated.MRC Media Group will contribute.Emerson Soccer has contributed $400.00.Hackensack University Medical Center has committed to $500.00.Rispoli Pastry committed to $100.00.Wells Fargo will not donate.Sussex Bank will not donateEmerson Wrestling contributed $300.00.Peter Weiss and Family committed to $250,00.Emerson Wrestling contributed $300.00.Red Claws donated $250.00Red Claws Can Shake totaled $8,422.00.Frank Malone donated $250.00.Anthony Gismondi noted that the food will be picked up from Shop Rite the morning of the event.Department of Municipal Services will be taking care of garbage cans.Sports activities at the Summer Kick-Off event will include soccer, football and baseball.Presiding Officer Dave Rector noted that UE from Celebration Fireworks has beenmeeting extensively with the fire official. Since the fire official will not be attending theevent, the State of New Jersey will be supervising the fireworks display. The RecreationCommission looked at other venues to have the fireworks, and it was determined that thesafest place is Hillman Field.The insurance paperwork is almost completed. The meeting with borough officials will be held next week. The current total amount in fundraising so far is $8,300.00. Signage, posters and flyers should be done next week. The Recreation Commissiondecided they would have a Program this year. The flyer will be e-blasted and posted onsocial media. Presiding Officer Dave Rector mentioned that he would like to have someone do “thank you” certificates for individuals to hang in their establishments. Presiding Officer Dave Rector mentioned that there will be no political speeches at thesummer event.IITennis ProgramThe Tennis Program will be tabled to a future meeting.IIISport-by-Sport Review – AllBaseball – There is nothing to report on baseball.Football – Emerson Football is going forward with merging with Park Ridge and had their registration.Soccer – Soccer registration is still open, and there are 190 children registered thus far. Summer Recreation Program – Summer camp registration is online this year.
